  • Query regarding Car Wash & UW&W

    Hello all,

Yesterday i sprayed water with pressurized hand pump sprayer all over my car to give it a rinse. Then i sprayed the mixture of Ultimate Wash & wax and water all over the car followed by a final rinse with pressurized hand pump sprayer with water inside it. When i was done, dried the car with Meguiar's Water Magnet. Total water used in whole process was 3 Liters

My question is that, Is it harmful for the paint in any manner, if little residue of UW&W (or any other car wash liquid like GC) is left over on the surface-if any?
Was it actually the right thing that i did? or i shouldn't do this in future for any reason? My objective behind all this was to save water (in which i was successful ) and to give a touch-less sort of a wash to my car.

    Regards,
    Imran

By hand pump sprayer, you're talkin about like a garden or weed sprayer? I'm not so sure I would want to do that. If I was doing a touch free wash, I would definitely want to use a power washer to really ensure I got everything possible without touching the paint.

As long as you dry up all the soap, I don't think it would be a huge issue. Just make sure you are getting a vast majority of the soap off.

        A little residue shouldnt hurt.

The only issue would be if you were drying the car, and any dirt was left behind that you would drag around. That would be a big cause of swirls. I dont think a hand sprayer would have enough power to get the dirt off. and then you are dragging it around.

Though i guess you would see if your towel turned black/gray at all?

You could always look into one of the rinseless washes, or even drying while using a spray detailer, to help with that.

If we understand this correctly, you basically just rinsed the car, sprayed it with a soap solution, rinsed again and then dried, right? While this may sound OK, and while you did use a very nice car wash soap, it's not really intended to work quite that way. In order for a soap to remove any significant amount of dirt with zero agitation, it would need to be a pretty potent detergent, and we don't really make anything like that. We have to assume that your drying towel was pretty dirty when you dried the car since you really didn't do much in your "wash" process to actually remove any dirt.

Now, if all you really had on the surface of the car was light to moderate dust, then this process is probably OK, but it may actually be overkill. For light to moderate dust you should be more than fine with a quick detailer like Ultimate Quik Detailer, Gold Class Premium Quik Detailer, or even Last Touch from our Detailer Line.

On the other hand, if the car was truly dirty, more so than would be considered safe for cleaning with a quick detailer, we do have a couple of other recommendations for you that will fit in nicely with your situation.

          1. Ultimate Wash & Wax Anywhere - this is a spray bottle of a ready to use product that you use sort of like a quick detailer, except that you use more product so as to better lubricate and encapsulate the dirt and safely remove it without scratching the paint. One bottle can "wash" the car 4 or 5 times, even when the car is pretty dirty. We recommend using multiple towels for the process, starting with one for the initial wipe and a second to immediately dry the area. Refold the first towel as it gets dirty, and always dry with the second towel. When the first towel is soiled on all sides, toss it aside and move your drying towel up to wash duties, placing a fresh towel into the process for drying. Depending on how dirty the car is you may use half a dozen microfiber towels to wash the car, but the process works beautifully and it leaves some nice polymer protection behind in the process.

          2. Rinse Free Express Wash (D114 from our Detailer Line) is a rinseless wash that will let you wash your car using just a gallon or two of water in a single bucket. Using just one ounce in two gallons of water (or as little as half an ounce in one gallon for a car that isn't all that dirty) you then pick up some of the wash solution with a wash mitt and wash no more than one panel at a time - and probably less, actually. You can then immediately dry that area with a clean microfiber drying towel and continue washing the next area. Since this product is sold in gallon containers it's a very economical way to handle this alternative washing process.
