Is this the same orbital you've used tried to apply Ultimate Wax unsuccessfully? If so, stay away from Ultimate Compound! As the buffer seems Ultimate impaired.
Seriously, Ultimate Wax streaks when overworked and for me at least Ultimate Polish would dry when overworked. Although it has an amazing work time. To dry out it would be too little product, too long work time, too large work area or outdated product. None of these are as you describe! No advice from me, sorry.
Although remember, " like removes like". On a dried area speed a little fresh Ultimate Polish and wipe off quickly.

Thanks for trying to get to the bottom of the problem. I don't think I ever used the orbital with Ultimate Wax, but I did use Ultimate Compound to remove some scratches on the trunk from some dumb cat that apparently slid off the roof and tied to slow down with its claws on the trunk. UC worked perfectly.
I have only ever used the orbital with ColorX and UC. I apply my top wax, #16 by hand.
Anyway, since it seems to only be me who seems to have had this problem, I can deal with that as I am no pro. That said, I will search high and low for ColorX.
My local AutoZone no longer stocks Color X. I will have to purchase it online If I want to continue using it. I may order a 12 oz. (sample) bottle of M66 from ADS to try out. A one gallon bottle of M66 would be more economic than four bottles of Color X.
I just recently started posting here, and also recently picked up some UP for my 2012 White Equinox. I was concerned that it would be more "abrasive" than 7 Show Car (which is what I felt I needed before following the advice on this forum). I used the UP over the weekend & it made a substantial difference (to me at least) in the gloss. Followed up with UW & it looks better than when I bought it 3 weeks ago.
I was going to detail & essentially repair/revive/restore the exterior of my Mom's 98 Altima (also white). It desperately needs a good clean/condition, clay, polish, wax & headlight restoration. My questions:
1. Her headlights are hazed, but some part of me feels that PlastX would do the job without needing the kit. It's hard to explain why. But they just don't seem to be as bad as the lightest ones I've seen that "needed" the headlight restoration kit. If I did use the PlastX, should I follow up with something? A protectant? A wax? UP? Would multiple passes give me the desired finish if the 1st doesn't without harming the headlight?
2. My other deal was about using ColorX. It seems to indicate on the bottle that it will revive the finish/paint (with the proper amount of prep of course) to the extreme. Would this be better than say using Cleaner Wax (an old favorite)?
So Gold Class wash, clay bar, ColorX/Ultimate Polish, PlastX/headlight restoration & protection, then wax, then trim/tire dressing. Sound right? I know I can't make her car look brand new again since it has been slightly neglected, but I want to restore it as best I can. Or could I go UW&W, clay, UP, headlight resto, UW?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as usual. As a sidebar, this forum is the greatest resource I've ever come across for car care enthusiasts and people who like to protect their investments.
Sorry to reply to my own post, but of anyone has a process that they would use (including any different products) I'm all ears. Whatever I don't have in my stock I will go get. It's very important to me that my Mom's car is in immaculate condition as much as possible by the end of the weekend. If I have to spend 2 days on it so be it.

You can just try the UP first... There wont be any harm.. if they are oxidized, etc, then the UV coating is already gone.

Well, I dunno about extreme.. but it is a nice step up from the Cleaner/Wax.
You can always do a test spot with the Ult. Polish first if you already have it.

Well, in general things would look like (for a detail covering all the steps):
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. Clean - Ult. Polish for mild cleaner, or Ult. Compound for strong
4. Wax
5. Wax
1. Wash
2. Clay
3. ColorX
4. Wax
And filling in the other interior, lights, tires, etc as needed.
If you could stop buy and get in a test spot, it might be a good thing. If the UP isnt enough, you can decide about ColorX or up to UC.
Another new favorite of mine is the CarPro TRIX, or IronX/TarX seperately. It is a fun step for the car before the claying if you feel like it, or in an area you feel needs it.
