  • Spot Free Rinsing

At today's detailing event at Meguiars, spot free rinsing was discussed in conjunction with the Mr Clean Autodry. I have some issues with the Autodry as the rinse water pressure is too light so it takes too long to do the final rinse and the amount is limited so you rinse twice, once with regular water and once with the deionized water. Mike Phillips mentioned getting a heavier duty product for the spot free rinsing. I came across this on the net and it seems reasonably priced at about $60 and is rechargable with table salt so no costly cartridges to replace and operates at full water pressure, not a mist like Autodry. Has anyone had experience with this or similar products?

I don't mind using traditional methods to wash, just hate drying, specially in the summer when parts of the car dry faster than you can get to it.

You need to find out what amount of TDS ( total dissolved solids ) is in the water coming out of the "water stick".

TDS are the total weight of all solids that are dissolved in a given volume of water which is measured as parts per million (PPM).

TDS can be almost anything that has contaminated the water such as calcium bicarbonate, nitrogen, iron phosphorous, sulfur, and other minerals. They come from organic sources as well as man made.

You can find a TDS tester (about $25) and test for yourself how pure the water is.

For my mobile detail biz I use water that is run through two DI tanks before I store it in my van. With fresh DI tanks I get water that reads 0ppm TDS. Rain water is also 0ppm.

Bottled water can read about 50-160ppm depending on the brand. Water is considered HARD WATER if it reads 170ppm or more.

My tap water here in So Cali reads TDS of 364ppm.

I recently bought a filter similar to the water stick -

Water out of this when it has been freshly regenerated reads about 120-130ppm.
