So i just recently bought my first Brand New car and was confused as to which product to use after washing. Im stuck between the Ultimate Quick Wax and the Ultimate Quick Detailer. Theres nothing wrong with the paint since its new but this is my first black car and just want to have it shining its best after every wash.

Re: Brand New 2012 Car
I would bet that it would need a good claying. Just because it is new, doesn't mean it doesn't have contaminants (rail dust, atmospheric fallout, etc. ) bonded to the paint. If it were me, I would clay it and put a good coat of NXT or equivalent on it. Congrats on a black car. If you want to keep it looking good, it takes a lot of work, and it will own you, not the reverse. My black car owns me.

Re: Brand New 2012 Car
i clayed my 2011 Subie as soon as I brought it home, slapped on a couple coats of GC wax.
The clay was not too dirty but contained a lot of embedded contaminants.
A yr later, i noticed very faint swirls which I plan on attacking with swirlX via DA....i'm kinda glad to see some swirls, now I can use my swirlX!!"STRIFE" aka Phil

Re: Brand New 2012 Car
I aggree with blueline, you might want to clay the car. To test if the paint needs clayed run your hand over it after its been washed and if the paint is rough it needs clayed. As far as wax goes a synthetic wax like UW or nxt 2.0 will last longer but a caranuba wax like Gold class and M26 will look great on a dark car. I would also recomend UQW after every few washes and UQD for the removal of light dust ect. Hope that helps and good luck with the new car.

Re: Brand New 2012 Car
No need to really test it in my opinion, just clay the whole thing.
The Ult. Quick Wax is a touch-up product to use after future washings.
The Ult. Quick Detailer can also be used after washing, but is also good for bird droppings, light dust, etc.
You will want a proper coat of wax for the base coat, and then using those after.
I always prefer:
1. Wash - Good Quality towels, sponges.. Gold Class soap, 2 buckets, etc..
2. Clay
3. ColorX
4. Wax - Nxt wax, Ult Wax, etc2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: Brand New 2012 Car
Dont worry, all very simple by hand. A machine can be nice, but not needed, esp just for waxing. Removing swirls, scratches, etc takes a lot more effort.
The 4 steps listed above are quite easy to get right. Check out the quick tips videos as mentioned, and you can always ask more questions.2017 Subaru WRX Premium - WR Blue

Re: Brand New 2012 Car
Congrats on your first brand spanking new car - and kudos for joining a detailing forum in order to learn how to properly maintain it!
You should start by checking out some of our Quik Tips Videos here on MOL as well as our 5 Step Paint Care Cycle
If you get your washing and drying technique nailed down, and then do proper maintenance on the vehicle, you can keep the finish looking virtually brand new - if not actually better than new - for years to come. It's a pretty common misconception that a "brand new" car is perfect, when in reality they are often far from. Or maybe a better way to put it is that their potential has yet to be fully realized. We've seen a $400,000 Rolls Royce sitting on a showroom floor that was full of swirls, and we've seen far less expensive cars delivered in a nearly flawless condition. Most people simply don't know how to fully evaluate a car's finish for the simple reason that they haven't been educated in this area so they don't really know what to look for. The 5 Step Paint Care Cycle can help you with that. But be careful........ you could be badly bitten by this detailing bug and your life will never be the same!Michael Stoops

Re: Brand New 2012 Car
Clay bar is a must, you will be surprised how much contaminants there is even on new(ish) paint. It will also make cleaners/polishes/waxes easier to work into and removing a lot easier, and your wax/sealant will last longer. It will also feel a lot slicker since there are no contaminants disturbing that all important bond between wax and the paint.
Nothing to fear with clay bars, just don't drop it.
