  • Help me choose proper products/pads for full paint detail on my Range Rover

Im fixing to take the plundge and buy a DA setup. I just bought a 2006 Range Rover (dark blue, almost black) and it has swirls, and a few spots where the bird droppings were not cleaned off in time.

Now, I usually hand wax everything. My steps were, stripping wash, clay-bar, polish, show car glaze, nxt or gold class. Im really lost on what will bring out the best results with the DA. Those swirl marks are driving me crazy.

I will post pics after I get off work. I thought about taking it to someone to fix, put I really like doing this myself.

    Thoughts...

Deciding to pick up a DA buffer is a great idea - they speed up the detailing process, increase results, and are pretty easy to learn. Read through D/A Buffing 101 - An Introduction to the G110v2 and similar tools for a thorough rundown on the process and initial products to use.

Congrats on stepping up to machine polishing world. Your dual action polisher will never get tired and make your detailing sessions much more enjoyable and effective.

Consumer line products are very good to start with on first projects:
paint cleaner/ compound - Ultimate Compound
      cleaner/ polish - Ultimate Polish
pure polish - M07 Show Car Glaze (it's a pro Mirror Glaze product, but you already have it)
      plus your favorite wax/ sealant.

Good choice to clay your paint after washing before paint defect removal. You'll remove bonded above surface contaminants, create super smooth finish and extend wax/ sealant bonding.

      Good luck !!!

        Great replies so far.

I guess im more confused on the proper pads to use. I read many articles and searched, but it seems people run into soft paint and hard paints. This is where im confused as to which pad for what application. Can someone give me a general idea of what pads to buy, or what in a kit.

You need: 7-inch W8207 yellow polishing pads and W9207 black finishing pads (3-4 of each as you need to replace them half way through correction step), W68DA backing plate. Optionally W8204 and W9204 4-inch spot buffing pads and S3BP backing plate (for tight and hard to reach areas).

You may find this helpful as well (originally tested and posted by Mike Phillips) SMAT products from most to least aggressive (Ultimate Polish would be just slightly below M205 Ultra Finishing Polish):
