I saw some other detailers that recommended dampening the DA pad before applying the liquid. Does meguiars recommend doing this? What would I spray on the pad before applying the polish or wax?

I use the dry pad & apply the polish/wax as recommended - spreading it on the pad face at first then adding 3 drops as needed. Have you seen the video of using the MF DA system? (I assume you're using the microfiber pads.)

I am using the 2.0 SoftBuff foam pads. The MF DA system is for major paint correction, which is not what I'm doing. I figured I would use the least aggressive method first. Some detailers recommend spraying the pad with UQD first to help spread the wax or polish. This way the pad doesn't absorb most of the product. Does Meguiars recommend doing this?

You have the reasons right. Just a matter of what works for you, nothing right or wrong. One of the Mikes will say it isnt required, but thats about it.

Is it for polishing, or for waxing? Kevin Brown recommends priming the face of the pad with the same polish you're using, for increased cut and more consistent results. However, I don't see any need for this when you're just waxing.

I will be polishing and waxing. I don't expect to get a whole lot cut with the polish because it does not have a whole lot of abrasives and I will be using the finishing pad. Can you remind me what priming the pad means. Do you have a link where I can read up on it? thanks.

              Re: Applying polish and wax

Traditional "priming" of a pad with a light spritz of a quick detail spray is very common when rotary buffing, much less so when DA buffing. We don't see any real reason for doing this with a DA.

Lately the term "priming" has come to mean the uniform covering of the face of the pad with product, albeit a very small amount of product spread very thinly over the face of the pad. This is mandatory when using the DA Microfiber Correction System, and optional when using foam pads. Priming of foam pads was really popularized by Kevin Brown, hence the KBM (Kevin Brown Method) moniker often attached to the process. You can read Kevin's write up on the process at KBM- Pad Priming and Supplemental Wetting Agents

A discussion on the proper technique for priming the DA Microfiber pads is included in our thread discussing proper use of the system at Using Meguiar's D/A Microfiber Correction System

Thanks! That clears it up, no priming with the 2.0 foam pads.

                  Re: Applying polish and wax

I have a question about waxing with the dual action polisher.I got this machine for Xmas 2010,I finally got it out of the closet two days ago.My wife has a 2007 Monte Carlo SS which is black,I did the entire car with Scratch X2.0 with the w2087 pad,it turned out great!I was going to wax the car now with Gold Class. My question is this,do I put the wax on by hand, and take it off with the w2097 finishing pad or do you also apply with this pad.I thought I read somewhere in the forums that you put wax on the entire car then take it off with the machine. What do you do,or what are your thoughts on this .Thanks

                    Re: Applying polish and wax

You would apply the wax to the pad, and then to the car.

You can remove by hand, or with MF bonnets over a clean pan using the machine.

I put on with DA and remove by hand so I can feel it.
