  • Door jambs

When I received my new car, the exterior looked spanking white but when I opened the doors and boot, the door jambs had some sore-looking stains. Do autodetailers routinely detail door jambs and if so, what is the best way to get at the tiny space near the hinge? Or is it unnecessary since it remains largely "hidden"?

    Thanks.

    Re: Door jambs

Mika, you saw it so I wouldn't call it hidden. I've used a dilution of All Purpose Cleaner for some of the more dirty door jambs, sometimes I've used Optimum No-Rinse to clean them. I have a couple of small 2-gallon garden sprayers with the dilutions. I spray and wipe. However you can just wipe them, but use plenty of liquid to act as a lubricant to prevent scratching the paint. Using your regular automotive soap will work too.

Often I use Ultimate Quik Wax to maintain them after cleaning. Larger ones can be waxed using a regular liquid or paste wax.

Using a "detailing" brush to reach into the cracks and crevices is helpful. I'm sure some other folks will offer some other advice.

Thanks for the tips! I did try to spray some water from a hose first before I wash the door jambs but the interior gets wet. So I thought a cleaner liquid sprayed directly at the area and wipe will probably work best, won't it? Thank goodness the car is new and the stains are not thick or greasy.

I use APC for cleaning and a cleaner wax for stubborn stuff. Once well cleaned I use UW for protection and maintenance is usually just a QD wipe-down followed by UQW.
