I'm getting ready to do the spring detail on my summer fun car, and am looking for advice on how to avoid what I ran into last year. I have a 2010 Challenger in black that has gorgeous paint but it also has A LOT of black textured plastic trim. I typically use NXT or UW (applied with a DA) on the paint and Ult. Protectant on the trim. The issue I run into is I can't be as accurate as I'd like (or maybe as patient as I should be?
)with the round foam applicator pad and when applying the protectant I end up with smudges and smears of protectant on my freshly detailed paint where the two meet. When I try and remove those with some UQD and a microfiber I end up blending the two (since the UP hasn't completely absorbed into the trim) or cleaning the paint and messing with the protectant! I've even tried doing the trim first and then taping it off while I work on the paint, but the masking tape I'm using doesn't stick to trim freshly treated with UP. I haven't tried taping the freshly waxed paint off while doing the trim, but I'd be worried about the tape sticking there as well, or it taking the wax off when I remove it.
Does anyone have any tricks or tips that might help me out? Is there a different type of applicator I could use that can help? Or maybe I'm applying too much Ult. Protectant?
