What wax to use on Dark mocha metallic

I seem to remember Michael Stoops saying in a post to keep it as dry as possible.

I have applied ULW with my Meg's DA and black finishing pad with just a spritz of detail spray and it did not apply evenly. I also tried the same with a dry pad and received the same results. I now hand apply ULW with a dry - foam pad. I find that it goes on evenly and a lot easier than with the DA. And, it looks great on Bordeaux Red Metallic.
