  • What wax to use on Dark mocha metallic

The car got detailed by a professinal detailer a little while ago and is pretty swirl free. I was wondering what wax would make this color really pop it has lots of flake in it. Just looking for any opinions or anyone who has had experinece with this color thanks!

In my experience, #7 not only added more depth and wet look shine but also added clarity which made the flakes more visible. With wax/sealant, you can try the NXT 2 first, but many here says ultimate wax works better on dark paint. if you do plan to use Ultimate wax, you may want to use the paste version. Seems to streak a lot less. Both liquid and paste should yield great results just be mindful of the application/removal techniques.

Ultimate Wax. It works great on dark metallic colors.

Liquid version won't stain your trim. To avoid streaking you can wipe it off after 3-5 minutes.
Both forms: liquid and paste, have equally super long protection time (Meguiar's longest lasting wax/ sealant).

Just got done detailing the veichle with ulw and it looks great. I sprayed the applicator with water and kept it moist and applied very little product to the applicator and spread it very thin and evenly. I could barley see that there was wax on it , but it came off great with no streaking.

Just wondering if it says to spray the applicator with water..?

No it does not say to do this but, ulw has problems with streaking and by wetting i was able to spread it thin enough so that product didn't streak and removal was much easier.

Not saying you're wrong but i wouldn't moisten the applicator prior to applying ultimate liquid wax. But since it worked out nicely for you, then good. I would use water only after removing the hazed product to remove the streaking as suggested by meguiar's. Just enough to remove the streaking.

I guess improvisation and experimentation is also part of detailing, even if it means occassionally going against the recommendation of the manufacturers. Just look at people who had success using rotary buffers in working with ultimate compound. Or detailers who use different products/brands per detailing steps. I'm also guilty of that in a way. Things like applying collinite or whatever LSP out there on top of a meguiars wax like NXT 2.0.

I seem to remember Michael Stoops saying in a post to keep it as dry as possible.

In my opinion keeping the applicator dry was not able to spread it thin enough and use way to much product. But by keeping it wet it spread thin and came off easy and with great results , but it may lose some of it's durability.

Maybe using something in the ultimate line to moisten the applicator wouldn't compromise things too much. Like using ultimate quik detailer/quik wax to moisten the applicator would help. At least they all have that hydrophobic polymer tech.

My 2012 LaCrosse is Mocha Steel Metallic....LOTS of metalic. I used Synthetic Spray Wax from the Detailer line and it really pops! It did darken the color and is soooooo easy to use. Mist a section, spread with mf towel, wipe dry. Great on the black plastic trim and glass too! This is the first wax/polish/product I have ever used that really DID give it a WET look!!

I think I am going to use uqw after washes and try gold class quick wax once I can find some locally.

It really depends on what look you're going for and what your primary need in a wax/sealant is. If longevity and durability is your main concern then I feel that Ultimate Wax (liquid or paste) will give you the best "pop" in the metallic flake. If looks are more important and you wax every couple of months then something like #26 or Gold Class will give you what you're aiming for. For me, I love the warm glow that a carnauba wax can offer a little more than a sealant (which has more of a "candy coated" look to me). But either way you can't go wrong. You have to find what makes you happy.

And sometimes different paints respond differently to certain waxes. You may end up using a wax that works better on light colors on dark paint, and liking the way it looks. I actually prefer the bright reflective look on black/dark paint. But it's safe to say whichever toute you take, you will have good results.

In my experience, whether or not it's a carnauba wax or sealant, they all seem to add depth and enhance metallic flake on paint. Just in differing degrees
