  • Cold weather touch-up

Posted here because the Chip Repair Forum doesn't seem to have much recent "business".

I know how to do very good paint chip repair touch-ups. Been doing them for a long time and have done hundreds of them...seriously. OK the temperature thing. A small 1/4 inch chip on a door edge. Got the sandpaper, got the Prepsol, got the primer, got the paint, got the "talent". But I don't got the temperature that I like. It's about forty degrees in my garage. Should a bit of hairdryer time help to "git-r-done"?

Yeah, it's my new just off the transport 2012 Ram. I'd rather take care of the little factory nick myself than have the dealer's folks mess with it. New trucks and OCDS (Obsessive Compulsive Detailing Syndrome) are not a good mix.

Any chance you can get a heater in your garage?.
I have repaired chips in the cold before and used a hair dryer. I would suggest simply covering the chip with paint to protect. Wait for the warmer weather to fill. Wet sand and buff back to a level surface.

      rapport25,

I'll probably do as you suggest about a sort of temporary touch-up. Last time I did a temporary winter touch-up, the "temporary" lasted over five years. It too was on a body edge and didn't require any leveling or buffing.
