What Is This Stuff?

Hello Everyone:
It's been a very long time since I have last posted. I have a very neglected truck(due to a health issue) that I have taken the wheels off of to rotate and clean the wheels. The outside I know I can get cleaned&polished fairly well, but there is some stuff on the inside of the wheels that I can't tell what it is or how to get it off. Here are a few photo's:

So far the only cleaning attempt I have tried was soap&water and chrome polish. No luck.

Just a guess here, you been driving on 'salted' roads all?

Are those pits or mostly a surface effect?

Almost looks like mold, but on a wheel, kinda doubt that.

Try using some sort of an APC with a NOT to stiff of a brush (old tooth brush?) and go with the casting marks.

I have that 'stuff' on the inside of the rims on two of my vehicles. I have been unsuccessful at removing it, even with Wheel Brightener. My guess was some type of damage from letting brake dust on the suface too long.

It's a very common issue because of brake dust. Usually semi metallic pads do it.

Well, I have posted in a while, but I did get 90% off of each wheel by using purple power.
