  • HELP please used Ultimate polish on side windows and windscreen.

Hello forum people my name is carl i am new to this web site forum.

I have a 2011 WRX blue colour and the other day i got mad as i couldn't remove those darn water spots on the windshield and side windows.

So i did the unusual and use Meguiars ultimate polish and it has removed them but now when you put water on those areas it looks very patchy.

I understand this product is not intended to use on glass or so as whats done is done now and with your help in how to remove these patchy bits especially their one in the middle of the windshield.

You will only see the patch marks when i put water on it as the water doesnt sit on the areas where i used the polish.

So i'd appreciate any hints or tip or wether not to bother about this or maybe some type of protection as im unsure if i have taken of any glass film as the car is full factory standard.

With most appreciations and thanks for your replies.

Use glass cleaner and if that does not solve your problem try vinegar water mixture to clean glass.

Its not bad to use a paint cleaner on the glass... some glass cleaner after should fix it up.

          Have you tried 'claying'?

I'm not sure I understand what's going on. So the water is just sheeting on the windows and you want it to bead? Maybe you just need a coat of rain-x.

              Thanks for your replies.

My apologies that i didnt mention the term "sheeting" thats correct thats whats happening nor has it changed the reflection or anything like that.

But i have heard good things about this rain x and will buy it, i did buy a glass polish product to try and fix it but the ultimate polish can take of anything without fail with the glass polish did nothing loll.

My only concern was i wasnt sure if i had taken of a coating of the side windwos that helps the water bead rather than it sheeting, sometimes i do things out of the ordinary.

I was thinking this was bad but for a new 11 wrx the idiots at the car wash had put swirl marks galor especially on the bonet, roof and side doors.

I dont know which one did it but i found a professional meguiars certified detailer who will fix it yet $600.00 later.

Thanks guys for welcoming me on this site its nice to work with the meguiars community as the assistance is priceless.

Re: HELP please used Ultimate polish on side windows and windscreen.

Your detailerdealer may have just got some wax on the windows, and yeah, the Ult. Polish would remove that.

Subaru wont have anything speacial on the windows.

Your vision being clear is most important, so good that that is ok.

Once you have the glass all clean, you can use wax, or UQW, or RainX, Aquapel, whatever you like. Some people like coatings, some dont, just up to you.

If you go with the RainX, be sure to use the Original, not the glass cleaner. And use a damp towel, then a dry one while removing. You can do a search on here for tips, or glass coating discussions.

Hay thanks for the replies guys really helpful.

I must forward credit to the americans for really knowing how to look after a car as us australians havent got a clue on how to loll.

Now that i have an attention to detail i can see every new car with swirl marks and now no more car wash's again.

Looking forward to further liase with use.

                  Peace out.

                    Just a little FYI...

When glass, any glass surface 'sheets' instead of 'beading' it is (usually) an indication that the surface is clean. It is when you apply a coating (wax, RainX, or whatever) is when you will see the beading.

Notice a drinking glass after you wash it, see how the water just runs off? Same thing.

I suspect this is the issue.

Several manufacturers use auto glass that has a permanent water repellant coating applied at the factory, especially on the side glass. By polishing you may have removed some of this coating leaving the blotchy appearance and notice that the glass no longer repels water like before. You are left with removing all of the coating through machine polishing and then using a product like RainX or Aquapel from now on. RainX and Aquapel are only temporary coatings, however. Using an abrasive polish on coated glass can cause this issue. Best to check on what kind of glass your vehicle has before attempting this kind of polishing.

                        Thanks for your replies guys.

I kinda suspected it may have some sort of coating on it as the water now sheets which will cause me an issue while driving in the rain or so.

I will look into rain-x or another product called enduro shield which says it last 12 months and longer on the side windows.

So now i have put down the polisher as i can get carried away with it and invest in other techniques.

Though if this is the issue which i believe about the coating then i must use temp fix or are their like a recoating type of thing avaliable on the market?

                        Thanks guys
