  • ulitmate wax vs nxt 2.0

I have been using ulitmate liquid wax and love the results. I have found nxt 2.0 on sale and was considering giving it a try. what is the similarities and differences from ultimate wax? I have a silver tacoma and the paint is very well kept and cared for.

both would be applied with a random orbit and removed by hand.

The Nxt is nice, and applies a bit more traditionally. Might be a bit glossier, hard for me to tell.

But the Ult. Wax seems to have the better durability for me, esp with Ult. Quick Wax after washes. And it looks really good too.

Re: ulitmate wax vs nxt 2.0

Both are fully synthetic sealants (waxes) and NXT 2.0 used to be our longest lasting, best protecting product. That distinction is now held by Ultimate Wax. To use both on the same vehicle is a bit redundant, but to determine which one looks better is a totally personal preference. Some people here prefer the look of one over the other, but sometimes that's only on different colored paints. On the flip side, some people can't tell one wax from the other visually, or at least they see very little visual difference and therefore prefer to stick with something that applies and wipes off easily, shines to their satisfaction, and then protects for a long period of time. If that, for you, is Ultimate Wax, then stick with it. If you want to experiment with different waxes (and a LOT of forum regulars do this) you might want to look at a nice carnauba like Gold Class or M26 since you've already got a very nice synthetic in Ultimate.

Some observations/impressions regarding ULW and NXT 2.0

I find that NXT 2.0 to be just a bit more reflective while ULW seems a tad deeper. I believe ULW darkens the paint slightly more than NXT 2.0

ULW seems to have a slicker feel and that slickness seems to last a lot longer than NXT2.0.

Another difference is the ULW doesn't stain black plastic trim while NXT frequently does. I have taken to also using ULW on the trim now rather than a dedicated trim dressing. It dries hard and doesn't leave streaks when it gets rained on like some trim dressings will.

On dark colors, ULW might occasionally exhibit some streaking but that is easily corrected with a damp MF wipe. NXT 2.0 never streaked for me, ever.

The appearance left by ULW seems to last much longer than the appearance of NXT 2.0.

The choice of which wax/sealant to use, for me, is definitely a personal taste issue. On some colors, I prefer one product over another. On some cars that are daily drivers I prefer a product that I know will afford a higher level of protection and longevity. On a garage queen I will go a different route as the protection and longevity are not an issue. Good to have choices.

Re: ulitmate wax vs nxt 2.0

My NXT Tech 2.0 was almost gone and I needed to buy a new bottle. I stood in front of the Meguires products at Target and said Ultimate Wax or NXT 2.0. Should I try Ultimate Wax or stick with the tried and true? I bought another bottle of NXT Tech 2.0. The ease of application and removal can't be beat and it doesn't have any of the Ultimate Wax problems I've read about on this Forum. But as others have said to each their own.

I really like both but find UW to last substantially longer.

UW seems to hide swirls just as well as NXT 2.0 in my experience as well.

As far as application, UW is much better in the sun while NXT 2.0 tends to streak when applied in the sun.

I'd say go and try out the ultimate wax on your silver tacoma. Even if ult. wax seems to give deeper shine, i believe it can give your paint a different kind of shine that may be to your liking even if NXT 2 gives a brighter gloss. well, that's what i'd do since i also have a silver car and try out different waxes that may not be optimal on silver

Re: ulitmate wax vs nxt 2.0

I tried the Ultimate Wax a few times on my black Camaro before finally going back to the NXT 2.0. I found the streaking to be a bit much. I was having to do entirely too much forceful rubbing on the paint trying to eliminate it. Applying the thinnest of coats via PC didn't seem to make much difference. It would take 2 washes before the streaking was eliminated. But, yea, the stuff lasts REALLY long.

Wiping off NXT, on the contrary, is effortless and really shows off the hours of polishing that preceeded it.

I've been using NXT 2.0 and like it, you guys feel it will bring the most out of my car's color?
Would UW be better.... and why do I read so many comments about streaking?

According to Toyota this car is Almond Beige Pearl.

My experience was a crisp shine with UW, and a deeper shine with NXT. Silver car too.

But, your point is still valid. Different waxes for different people.

I say NXT 2.0 may no longer be "the wax" of meguiar's but it still has its own charm vs. ultimate wax, It is a safe option for anyone who likes to keep their cars shiny and well protected. It's more traditionall than the Ult. wax but it seems more user friendly. Definitely one of the best that i used and most cost effective. Nice shine without too much effort. You can get great results without much effort works well for me on most colors. And yes, deep shine is also exactly what i got. I do try to mix up products. I actually use reflections top coat with NXT 2.0, i know its not a megs product but it does give an even deeper, wetter shine.

Ouch, I just bought a whole bottle of Ultimate Wax Liquid. Do you guys think I should take it back for the paste version? When I wax my car I'll leave it on the garage overnight for it to cure then I wipe it off. But how does the streaking occur? How hard is it to correct?

After using UC, UP, and UW... I'm not happy with smooth as glass.
Smooth as Glass is an old standard, the new standard for paint texture is Meguiar's Ultimate Quality...

The liquid is ment to be applied and sit for 5 min and then wipe of I have tried this and still get streaks ,but have been told that the paste version drys fully and wipes off easily and i think im going to try the paste because i also had many streaking problems

I do the same thing as you. Personally, I would go for the paste, especially if you're applying by hand..

The silver one demands nothing and it looks just fine. I think the black vehicle is taking advantage of me, and the silver car is more my style. We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Rather than apply it and leave it on overnight before wipe off, go the other way with this: apply it in a very thin coat to just a panel or two and then wipe off right away. Continue around the car like this until finished. If you see any unevenness at all, mist a very small amount of plain water onto a microfiber towel and lightly wipe over the surface. That should knock down any streaking you may see. If you end up not being happy with the product, don't hesitate to contact our Customer Care Center at 800.347.5700 for a replacement.
