    Re: Meguires Ultimate Liquid Wax

    Hello,

    Couple things to think about:

    1. Have you done, or planning to do any other prep work before waxing? Ult Wax and others work best with at least a little prep work. I find that:
    - Wash
    - Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
    - a cleaner/wax like ColorX
    - Wax - Ult. Wax, Nxt Tech Wax, etc

makes for a nice fast detail, with great results.

    - and Ult. Quick Wax for after future washes.

    2. Are you experienced with waxing, etc? Ult. Wax, and esp Ult. Liq Wax applies a bit different than other waxes. Nxt 2.0 is probably the closest to it, and applies more in the traditional (thin coat, let dry, remove) kind of way.

The Ult. Wax applies very very thin, and then dries very quickly. You'll find a few techniques on this site, but I applied to the whole car, then almost immediately started over removing it. I used a spray bottle to very lightly mist my towel or the surface to aid in removing.

I had no issues, and have used it a few times by hand and machine. Other people have had issues, so it is hard for me to tell if the product is tricky, or not quite being used right, or what the case is.

I actually bought the New Car Kit, which comes with a sample size Ult. Wax, which is probably the best way to try it out. I have also heard people say the Smooth Surface Clay kit contains a sample, but not sure on that one.

        Re: Meguires Ultimate Liquid Wax

The little process I laid out above will probably be the quickest/easiest way to get good results and get the most out of the products.

Even the claying is optional, but is so easy why not.

As far as the 'old school' slap a coat of wax on... that tends to make us think of thick coats of wax with lots of white dry stuff too buff off. If you do that, you'll have loads of issues, esp with the Ult. Wax. Very thin means barely able to see it.

I too have a 2011. I wanted Kona Blue but could not get it on a GT/CS. Ultimate Wax is good, but make sure you clay and polish first.

I personally prefer the UW in paste form but the liquid is a fine product, too. The liquid won't stain trim whereas the paste will. However, the paste is easier to apply and remove IMO.

I definitely agree with Murr. Using UQW between after maintenance washes will help prolong the UW. I would pick up a Smooth Surface kit along with whichever type of UW you choose since even cars, from the factory can require a good claying. You'll even find a nice little bottle of UQW in the kit.
