  • Question about results on DA MF vs UC

Ok so today I was detailing a white car that had lots of dulled out/dead paint. I figured i'd try out my new 5" DA MF correction system. I got to the second panel and was looking back at the previous panel at a different angle when I noticed the paint looking kinda pink. So i started trying to rub it out using a clean microfiber cloth and nothing. The pink colored correction compound was coloring the paint . I then grabbed UC on a foam pad and applied by hand and it removed the pink and left the surface WAY more shiny and smooth than the DAMF system did.

So what did i do wrong there? The surface was clayed, I was working the DAMF correction compound at level 4 on the porta cable. I even bumped up to 5 briefly just to see if it would help. Seems like the UC did a much better job getting the shine out from under that dead paint.

I then tried out the DAMF on my car which has very nice glossy paint and man it made it look awesome with very little effort.

    Thanks for the help!

I'm a newbie with the DAMF system, but I was advised to spin the correction pad and fluid with the Porter-Cable at setting 5, rather than 4. Differences between buffers. Also sounds like you maybe working too large of an area and the correction fluid is drying making it difficult to remove with your microfiber. Try flipping your microfiber more often and re-fold more often too. I rotate between microfibers more often too.

Like I said I'm a newb with DAMF, so some folks more experienced will comment with better, more accurate suggestions in a bit.

Run your Pc on speed 5. Make sure pad is spinning while working. Slow down on your motion and do a small section at the time. Clean pad often with soft brush or air.

OK. I guess i'll give it a shot again. Any idea on why the UC had way better Shine results?? I worked in the UC lightly by hand versus the spd 4-5 on the porter cable and the difference was big and clear.

I did also clean my pad with a soft brush, but do admit I was working bigger areas than normal. Half the hood= 1 area, fender = 1 area, door = 1 area .. I shoulda cut them in half but I was in a rush.

As I found out when you rush you don't get the results you are looking for so you have to do it again! This takes time. Maybe Ultimate compound has more oils in it. Not sure,,but I used both with similar results. D300 works great. make sure you are using cutting pad with d300.

The DAMF system can be pretty aggressive, meaning on more delicate paints it can sometimes create a bit of haze, or quite a bit in some cases. It may just have been that this particular paint system responded better to Ultimate Compound and a foam pad than to the microfiber discs. This is why you should always be doing a test spot when working on a given vehicle for the first time. We've seen situations where one product/pad combo was just amazing on one car, and the car right next to it hated that same combination, or that same combination was virtually unusable on the second vehicle. Those are extreme cases, but they can happen and no single product or product/pad combo is "best" on all paints.
