  • Waxing in 27-47

Tomorrow, (12/16/11) I may wash and wax my car, but it's going to be fairly cold.
The high for tomorrow is 40F, with the low being 27F. I love on a hill, so expect wind chill to factor into the temps.
Would washing/waxing cause any problems at such a low temperature?
I would be using Gold Class Wash, along with Ultimate Liquid Wax.
Would the wax cure properly at such a low temperature?
Also, what would be the likelihood of the water freezing with wind blowing on it while I wash the car?

If it would be beneficial, I could wait until Sunday when the high would be 52F.

Edit: The title glitched, along with my post. This seems to be caused by my use of the ASCII code for the degree symbol.
Title should read: "Waxing in 27-47F?"

You may want to wait until Sunday. That extra 10-12degrees could make a difference.

Are you waxing out doors? If so, I'd wait till Sunday.

As for washing...with temps in the 30's...just as long as it is above freezing, you should be okay. But, you are the one that will suffer...wet feet, really cold hands, etc. That is voice of experience speaking...LOL. Note my location.

      Merry Christmas...

Try to stay in the sun. Sunday sounds good.

You may get some wax streaks, but not a big deal. And since the Ult. Wax shouldnt be left on long anyway, drying shouldnt be too big of an issue.

Washing will be fine but waxing really should be with temps at least in the 50-55F range for best, most consistent results.

Do you have a garage or a friend or family member with one you could use for a few hours. If so, you could invest in a rinseless wash and make your experience more enjoyable. I know how it is to wash in cold temps and rinseless washes are a godsend to me. I don't deal well with cold though. Anything below 55-60 degrees is frigid to me And to think I was born right outside of NYC.

Mike, got any jobs out there in nice warm land?

The washing and wax went well. Unfortunately, I overestimated my daylight. Only the hood and roof got a real wax, the rest of the car got some UQW. The UQW and ULW really look quite similar, the ULW is a bit darker and feels smoother, but other than that they both look very nice. I have never compared them side by side.
We will see how they hold up, we may be having 3 days of rain.

I handle cold a bit better than most, we keep the house at 62 in Winter, sometimes colder.
I have never used a rinseless wash, do they clean similarly to a wash mitt and bucket?
