  • Honda Pilot Wax on Plastic Trim

    Hi All,

I am new to this forum and detailing in general, but I managed to get wax on the porous plastic panels on my 2010 Honda Pilot when I was waxing it...It was Meguiars Cleaner Wax. I tried using Dawn and some light scrubbing to remove it, which seemed to lighten it slightly, but didnt come close to removing it. I also tried interior detail spray from Meguiars as I had read somewhere on the Internet. I really want to get this off the trim as it makes the car not look so good. I thought I would come to the experts here. Appreciate everyone's advice! I'm looking forward to trying anything that will work!

    Thank you,

    Matt

Dead easy, you can either try and get rid by using glass cleaner/ipa/APC solutions and a tooth brush or go over it by using a trim product. As this is a Megs forum, Megs Endurance tyre dressing works wanders on plastic trim, yes I'm totally serious. Apply it, allow it to dry for 15mins or so and then buff, that simple.

+ 1 for Megs APC+ (4to1) and a tooth brush. You can also try magic eraser with light pressure. After a thorough cleaning then dress with something like Megs All Season Dressing, a water based product won't last that long on the exterior plastic trim.

Thanks all. this may be a dumb question, but what do you mean when you say ipa and APC? Appreciate the help and am going to try this first thing this weekend.

IPA would be iso-propyl alcohol. APC would be All Purpose Cleaner.

What i have found to work, even on the worst trim stains, is the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. Follow this with your favorite trim cleaner.

Will the ipa hurt tha paint if it comes in contact with it?

No.. you'll just spray and wipe. Not soak the paint for hours...
