  • quick question about Meg's APC plus

1\ As for 4:1 dilution (4 water: 1 APC plus), if I use this on wheels, is this gonna be safe on all types of wheels? What about the delicate brake parts? what about rubber(since most Home-made APCs seem to accelerate age of rubber?)?

2\ Can I use APC plus as a wax striping solution? If so, what dilution is more suitable?

    Thanks a bunch in advance

I'm not sure what the affects of 4:1 would be but I find 10:1 does just fine for cleaning wheels. As for stripping wax, yes it will, but I think you would be better off claying or using a mild paint cleaner. Just my thoughts.

I wouldnt spray it on the brakes... I tend to mix around 8:1 or so for everything. Havent had a need to go stronger yet, as far as my regular dirt and grime.

And yeah, it would strip wax, but not nessicerily the best choice. What were you hoping to do? Besides remove the wax...

Re: quick question about Meg's APC plus

Thanks all. Well, I think the only matter is whether APC plus is an acid-based cleaner, however i cannot find any information on this. The reason I asked about the was-stripping ability is I am looking for an easy pre-soap solution, without purchasing any new stuff. My original plan is: spray on APC + on painting, let stand for 1 minute or so, wash with DAWN solution---in order to fully remove the old wax and to reapply new wax.

I have some clays in hand, although I found sometime they work well but sometimes don't (in stripping wax). And of cause sometimes I just enjoy being lazy...LOL. In other cases, most my customers cannot care less for paying a clay job. that's when I start to think about quick and efficient was-stripping solutions.

I am personally never fond of the cleaner wax or prewax lotion...although I know Meguair's has some awesome products on this side.

D103 is not acidic, quite the contrary. In undiluted form it is very alkaline but once properly diluted it will be safe on brake components, rubber, etc. If you want to use it as a wax stripper, you don't need to go any more aggressive than a 10:1 dilution ratio, especially if you intend to follow with a Dawn wash after. It actually works very well for wax stripping and as a safe wheel cleaner - you'd be surprised how commonly it's used in for these very purposes in high volume facilities. You do want to make sure surfaces are cool to the touch, and you may encounter some staining if using on badly oxidized single stage paints, but that's about it. Keep it at 10:1 for all of the above and you're good to go.

I use APC+ on all my vehicles' tires/wheels & wheel wells. Usually 10:1.
It gets the tires really clean after a good scrubbing.....then the next time I wash the tires....I notice the bubbles are not a dark brown.....and less scrubbing too.
If you use it regularly (once/wk) it's great on wheels & tires....extremely cheap for a gallon of the stuff!!

Great! So you guys actually recommend use 10:1 on wheels and tires, instead of 4:1 as written on the back of the bottle? Glad to hear that. My 1 gallon seems can last forever this way LOL

Re: quick question about Meg's APC plus

10:1 with a little agitation seems to do every bit as good as 4:1 as long as you're talking about a maintenance routine and not a situation where things are really bad and you need that extra grunt to fix a real mess. Quite honestly, we're often amused when someone says they want a "no agitation" cleaner, but then state that they're going to wash afterwards. Well, doesn't washing with a mitt constitute light agitation anyway? It doesn't matter what you're cleaning, being the least chemically invasive is always a good idea.

                  Mike,

How would the APC/APC+ compare with the Aluminum Wheel Wash?

As far as safe for all materials, cleaning, I dont know the Wheel Washes lubricate some to prevent swirls/scratches?

Re: quick question about Meg's APC plus

APC+ is going to be a bit more aggressive than Aluminum Wheel Wash. While it should be safe, you do not want to let it dry on surface or it's likely to stain. But if you apply to a cool surface, agitate lightly with an appropriate brush/pad/mitt and rinse fully with water, you should be just fine. But bare, high polished aluminum wheels are so delicate that you're really better off sticking with Aluminum Wheel Wash or just car wash soap and water.

                      TTT!

I own an eco friendly waterless car wash and currently use Freedom APC on wheels but am on the market for something newer and cheaper and this D103 seems to be it, but have a question.

Right now I use 2 microfibers to clean wheels.. I spray on, use on MF to agitate and clean, then light spray again and follow up with another clean dry MF to remove any residue hazing and leftover dirt. There's always going to be some kind of residue leftover on the wheel with this method since we're not using water to wash off afterwards. Is the D103 safe for use in this application?

Hmm.. I may want to try some kind of QD spray for the second spray, if you were going that route.
