  • 2006 BMW M3, anyone have experience with them...I have lots of products.

I have been detailing a long time. Not any experience on BMW's though and now I own one

Paint is in great shape, it was always garaged and only has 25000 miles on it. Some highway chips, nothing major. The worst aspect is the previous owner curbed every wheel .

Unfortunately it will no longer be garaged and will spend about 75-150 miles a day commuting on the highway. I am thinking about clear bras esp if I have a body shop do some re-spraying on the bumper and hood. I want to keep it inside and out protected. I am about to have some 3M colorstable tint put on and I am going to see if they can do the windshield and sunroof in Crystalline.

It has a sun roof (roof trim I am concerned about) and it's a Competition Package car with BBS wheels. It has black Nappa leather and black carpet. It has Alcantara which I have no experience with.

I have the A TON of meguiar's products in my arsenal along with a Porter Cable 7336 (equivalent to the 7424 with a 6" counterweight) and a ton of edge 2000 pads of all types. I also have a few other vendor products.

    My inventory includes:

    #83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish
    #80 Speed Glaze
    #9 Swirl Remover 2.0
    #5 New Car Glaze
    #7 Show Car Glaze
    #21 Sealant 2.0
    High Tech Liquid Yellow Wax
    Gold Class Liquid Wax

Gold Glass Leather Cleaner / Conditioner
    Lexol Cleaner
Leatherique set with Cleaner and Conditioner

    ScratchX

    Gold Glass Instant Wheel Cleaner

    #10 Plastic Polish
    Plastix

    Natural Shine Dressing
Gold Glass Endurance High Gloss Gel

    Shampoo Plus
    Hyper Wash
    Last Touch
    #135 Quick Detailer
    D-120 Glass Cleaner

    DP Carpet and Upholstery Cleaner
    DP Pre-Treatment/Hot Water Extractor

    303 Cleaner
    303 Protectant
    303 Fabric Guard

Anything above that doesn't gel with BMWs? I have read some horror stories of people ruining trim and upholstery with bad product choices.

    Thanks

Congratulations on the M3 purchase. That is really sadd that the previous owner managed to curb every wheel.

I would not use an M3 for DD duties are parts and maintenance are twice the amount than the standard three series. It would be best if you had another vehicle such as a Honda or Toyota to handle the riguors of daily commuting.

I dont care for clear bras as there will be a distinct line between the plastic and the paint. Just try not to follow anything to close and get a Dr Color chip kit for the chips.

The products you listed should be fine for the detail.

Gratz joining the forum, however; you are going beyond the question. I have doubts on your advice.

        Awesome car!!!

Honestly, I am scared to drive any shiny, nice car often. Basically, anything thats actually mine and not a rental, I will worry about! Therefore, if you can afford it, why not have that beautiful handling, powerful car, to make your daily driving that much easier? It won't stay perfect, but I bet you'll love it!

You have a good supply. I don't know how hard BMW paint is compared to Mercedes, but I have to use M105 on Mercedes. The new Microfiber kit is suppose to be great too (it has specific compound with specific pad, unique idea). I found 83 made about 4x the work on my car to get same result as M105, but maybe BMW is easier to work on.

For all your driving, the clear bra might not be a bad idea. I strongly considered it on my cars, but I couldn't find a place I trusted to install it.

Enjoy using Meguiars on a fantastic M3!

Don't you have to follow M105 with something else since the abrasives don't break down?

          Thanks

            Maybe, maybe not.

M105 has a lot of cut. But it uses super micro-abrasives, unlike an old-fashion compound that uses "bigger rocks" to get more cut.

The micro-abrasives can leave a wax-ready gloss on some finishes.

              Excellent information.

Yes, I'd recommend a test spot to see what you're going to need. M105 can be very powerful. However, on my Mercedes paint, with the yellow polishing pad, it leaves a ready to wax surface. Honestly, I've nevertheless followed it with M205 in the past and it is virtually no better *on this particular paint*.

Now, if I use M105 by hand to treat an area, I must follow it with something else because no matter how gentle I am on this finish, if I use M105 by hand, it leaves it dull.

You've got an excellent mix of products that should make caring for this M3 a breeze. One product we would highly recommend you adding to the mix, however, is our Ultimate Compound. Yes, it's from our consumer line and much of what you have is from our Mirror Glaze Pro line, but UC is actually derived from M105 but in a much more user friendly format. It will give you more cut than even the M83 in your current collection, but without the dust so common to M105 when used on a DA. The abrasives use the same technology as M105 so the finish is usually excellent and generally you can go straight to wax after using it. If your desire is to take the finish to an even higher level, then M205 or Ultimate Polish would be an excellent intermediate step.

As for the clear bra, you might want to investigate the potential downside to using one over a respray. While a clear bra really isn't all that different from the vinyl wraps that are becoming more and more common these days (other than it being clear, of course) we have seen situations where the removal of these films has lifted the paint when applied to repainted panels. On factory cured paint it is almost never an issue, but those resprays can change things. Just an FYI.
