just because you buy a brand new vehicle ....
dont assume the paint job doesn't need any work

i just bought a new 2011 silverado black
i just figured the finish would be in great shape
till i got it home, washed it and dried it, the towel felt like i was drying sandpaper
sure enough when i rubbed it with the back of my hand, it was rough as hell

then i thought, wait, its an 11...so it probably was built a while ago
sure enough the build date was almost 7 months ago
which means its been sitting around the dealer parking lot that whole time

so i went out and bought a new claybar kit
did about 2 sq ft of the hood, and the nice new white clay was brown and black already....wow
long story short i used both bars in the kit, and in the end they were both trashed and black

so then i waxed it, now i have a great looking smooth as ice finish
    ready for winter

thought id share the lesson i learned today

    Great tip!

We so often hear people say "my car is brand new, I just bought it - it doesn't need anything because it's in showroom condition." Uh huh.

Oh, by the way, we've moved this thread to Detailing 101.

No worries. The truck looks fantastic, by the way. Better than "showroom new"!!!!

The paint looks like glass, the way a new car should be! Great job! My car was the same way when I bought it. It had been sitting in the lot for 3 months and the paint was very rough.

I'm trying to entice a Camaro owner to have his car detailed and that was his exact response!!! -_-

well my truck is brand new, so it was too hard at all
but usually what i do is
#1 make sure its completely cooled down
#2 rinse off with a hose
#3 spray down a good cleaner, i use purple power, or orange blast, im sure maguiares makes a good one too, let sit for a few mins
#4 rinse with a hose on full
#5 let dry..at this point i usually wash the rest of my car/truck...then come back to the engine after
#6 use Gold Class Vinyl/Rubber Protectant or Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant

and if you keep up on it, its pretty easy to do
