  • Question for detailing 1970's - 80's car paint

I just got 2 older Cadillacs, a 1977 and 1983. I'm not a paint expert, but the paint is not like on the newer cars that I have owned with deep clear coats. Paint on both is very good due to always being garaged and limited driving, but it's time for detailing. Body shop guy said especially on the blue one he would not use compound, but go with a paint cleaner or polish. I have Ultimate Polish, Deep Crystal Polish, Scratch X, Swirl X, Ultimate Compound, so on and so on. After wash and clay, what do you suggest before wax?

Just don't want to mess up the paint, so thanks for any help or ideas.

Ult. Polish or #80 are good starting points.

Can Ultimate Polish be used with Meg's Daul Action Polisher or should it be used by hand?

        It is ok for both.

Though you may want to do any spots where you feel the paint is thin by hand.
