  • New Paint damage by fuel/gas

    Hi to all!
my car civic Ek4 had just sent for some bodyworks and new paint. i just got back my car 2 weeks ago.

i went to a fuel/gas station to fill up and the attendant over spill it. i only manage to found out when i got back home! after that, i quickly rinse off with water. but i guess its too late? there is a stain. when i touch it, i seems to be rough surface. does my new paint damage? can i polish it? wax it? anyway i can save the paint? i heard that newly painted car cannot be wax or polish.

    please advise. need help!!!!!!

You say you rinsed with water- did you try to actually wash it off with soap and water yet?

You can polish new paint , you just shouldnt wax it for a while .
      (ususally 30 days)

It sounds like the gas ate into the clear coat becaue it wasnt fully cured yet.

It still may be wet sanded and fixable though, take it back to the body shop and get their opinion.

Unless this really ate deeply into the paint it should be fixable. Can you polish? Yes. Can you wax? Well, not quite yet but waxing alone probably won't do anything anyway since this type of correction is not what a wax is designed to do. If you have access to something like M80 Speed Glaze or Ultimate Compound (heck, even ScratchX 2.0 should work here) then you can safely try any of those. We highly recommend staying away from a cotton towel as an applicator though as they are often aggressive enough to haze the paint, and you want to move forward here, not backward. A soft foam wax applicator is a far better choice, and you never want to scrub the paint. You will, however, need to use enough energy to clean and somewhat level the paint, but that should be accomplished with a mild approach. It's always best to start easy and work up in power rather than just going at it with everything you have just because it looks bad. You might want to run by the body shop first though - they may be willing to go over it quickly with the same buffer and compound they most likely used right after they painted the car anyway. Shouldn't take them more than a few minutes if they're willing to help you out.

thanks for advise guys. i guess at the moment i will try some M80 speed glaze / ultimate compound / scratch X 2.0 and see how it goes. only then i will drop by to my paint guy this weekend and get him to rectify.

Glad to hear it worked out for you. It would be terrible to have new paint ruined.
