  • Gel Coat Oxidation 2003 Fifth Wheel

I have tried using a product suggested by friends called Gel Gloss on my front cap and after three times the oxidation seems better but not what I want as far as shine. I have been told by a friend I need to use #67 which is more aggressive than the Gel Gloss and then use #21 sealant to protect the new shine.

Should I get a DA Polisher like the Polisher G110v2 and lose the 30 dollar craftsmen?

I notice all marine/RV oxidation removal products go by level of oxidation, What is the best way to determine this level? Should I start light then go heavy? Is # 67 considered heavy.

What pads should I buy with the above polisher is there a kit that would cover my needs for oxidation removal.

    I feel your pain!

That being said, yes M-67 has MUCH more cut than Gel-Gloss.

From the sound of it, your fiver is pretty well oxidized. Using a 'machine' is really the only way to attack it. Not that is can't be done by hand, but man it will be a bear to do. There is lot of real estate there.

I recommend using 5 1 /2 inch pads, just seem to 'work' better than the larger 6 1/2". Lake Country pads starting with an orange (or even the yellow one), dropping down to white and then red. Orange/yellow for compounding. White for 'polishing'. Red for waxing.

You want to start ith the least aggressive combination then move up as needed. Before you jump in with a super duper compound and the expense of buying a machine and pads, start with M-49 (HD Oxidation Remover) by hand in a small area. If that does the trick, the decision is yours if you want to do it by hand or spend the bucks on a machine.

If the 49 doesn't work out, then look at 67...again try by hand first. I'll add, if the 67 fails your expectations there is M-91 (Power Cut Compound). I wouldn't even try that by hand. But 91 is one great compound!

Just as a note...M-67 and M91 only come in a quart (and larger) bottle. No 16 ouncers.

Oh, for the final wax...look at Flagship Marine Wax.

    Hope this helps ya some...

I highly recommend getting the G110V2. It's almost impossible to get even pressure with your hand/fingertips and the cheap machines just don't have the power to do the work. Doing the job by hand tends to leave uneven results not to mention killing your arms and hands.
