New F150

Hi all
Just picked up a 2011 F150 supercrew in Black - Laid down, by hand, a coat of Ultimate Polish followed by NXT2 liquid wax. WOW
Looks great.. I love detailing and want to keep after the paint.
My questions are

1- Do I need to strip the old wax and polish off before applying another coat of the same?

2- I'm picking up a PC DA and want to apply by machine. What pads should I get to keep the paint perfect.

3- What other Meguiars products will make the Black paint deep, wet and glossy

Some people feel comfortable washing the car, and then putting a fresh coat of wax on.

My car is a daily driver, parked outside, etc... So I dont like to do something like work a product into the paint without a good claying/cleaning step before hand.

Kind of what you are comfortable with. But it would have nothing to do with the previous wax still being there.

Generally you would buy a case of 6 pads, either 4 polishing, 2 finishing, or 1 cutting, 3 polishing, 2 finishing.

3- What other Meguiars products will make the Black paint deep, wet and glossy

Generally:

1. Wash - Gold Class, etc... 2 buckets, grit guards, quality towels, etc.
2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit
3. Clean/Polish - Ult. Polish
4. Wax
5. Wax - 2 thin coats is best, unless waxing often.

6. Maintain - Ult. Quick Wax for after future washes when not detailing.

Congratulations on your purchase! Please post some pictures of your new ride! Black done with UP and NXT 2.0 should look great! You need to try Ultimate Wax. It looks great on black.

Here are some of my answers to your questions:

1. No you don't need to strip off your old wax. Meguiar's waxes are compatible with each other and won't interfere with their bonding and longevity factors.

2. You need to get the W8207 Softbuff 2.0 Polishing pad and the W9207 Softbuff 2.0 Finishing pad. These pads are great because they simplify the pad selection and is machine washable! Don't forget to get the W68DA backing plate that goes with it. While you're at it, might as well get the corresponding 4" polishing/finishing pads. Their part numbers are Wx204. If you're going to pick up the 4" pads then you also need to get the corresponding S3BP backing plate for it.

3. Like I mentioned above, you need to try out Ultimate Wax. It works great on black. How's the condition of your paint? Does it have swirls on it? Were you able to remove everything with Ultimate Polish or not? If you still have some swirls then I would suggest picking up a cleaner polish such as Ultimate Compound or SwirlX. Deep, glossy and wet paint can only be achieved with swirl-free and defect-free paint. Also pick up some smooth surface clay kit.

The paint is perect. When i took delivery from the dealer, i took it home, washed clayed, washed, polished and waxed with two coats. Picked up a grit guard along the way and always use the 2 bucket method. I did pick up a gallon of the syn quick wax, same as uqw, for between waxes. I like what you said about not rubbing anything old into the paint. Think i'll clay the truck before applying another. Thanks for the reply and thanks to all for posting such great info on this site for newbies like me to learn.

Sooo, wheres the pics??

I used this exact same combo on my dark blue car, except i used UC first on the worse parts. Ive never seen it so shiny in my life. 2 weeks later after a wash I topped with #26 paste, which made it less bright but added noticeable depth and darkness. I would suggest the same if you dont like the super bright look.

If you're picking up a DA (great decision, by the way) then you definitely want to read through D/A Buffing 101 - An Introduction to the G110v2 and similar tools before you get started.
