  • Scratches on windows

Hi everyone-----I just used some Megs glass cleaner on my windows. They're clean, but there are scratches all over the windows! My micro is "glass" micro, but it must be too rough. What do I do now to get rid of all those scratches?

I remember reading on here that people were using ultimate compound to remove scratches in glass

The UC, #205, #4, etc type products will just remove gunk/grime, not scratches.

You have to look into glass polishing products, and that can get a bit advanced.

Can this be done by hand? Or should it be done by a pro with polisher?

            Re: Scratches on windows

Once my paint cures, the dealer has to pay for an exterior detail to fix some factory scratches. I guess I'll ask the detailers to fix the glass..at my expense. Live and learn!
Maybe newspaper really is the best glass-cleaning tool!

                  Re: Scratches on windows

Well, a new car doesnt need to cure, it is baked at the factory, and sat in lots for some time.

At any rate, I would be curious what scratches/swirls they may be fixing. You wont see a lot of positive comments around here on dealers detailing things. And yeah, would be weird for glass scratches/pits. They should only come after driving a lot, or dragging a wiper arm back and forth by accident, etc. Are you certain they are scratches?

                    Re: Scratches on windows

I guess the good thing about the detailer having to fix the car's scratches is that if it doesn't work, Honda is still going to have to do something. I suppose the problem with the windows could be that they're now so clean that I can see the nicks (and a few longer "scratches") now. They're just like swirls---the light catches them and they glitter like diamonds. The scratches are long----what else could they be but scratches?
The detailer said he didn't want to work on the paint (swirls and scratches) until the paint has cured for six months or so. The car was built in July. All of this is in my thread "bad paint-what to do?". But the windows....that's a different story. Really, could Megs glass cleaner and a microfiber damage the windows?
