Would anyone haphazard a guess as to how many ounces is used when detailing a car?

For example, how many ounces does one use with NXT applied twice?

... ounces speed glaze #80 used for average car?

    ..#83?

Thanks, just looking for an educated guess

    Hello fletch!

Great question but, I'm honestly not sure that there's a 'golden rule' on the volume of product needed for each vehicle.

There are so many factors that would influence the volume that it'd be tough to say "ONLY USE TWO OUNCES!" or "Use no more than...".

For example, one would have to weigh in the size of the vehicle, the use of a machine or hand applicator, the condition of the paint, the type of paint, the environment in which the vehicle is being detailed, the environment in which the vehicle is being utilized, the expected outcome of the detail, and oodles of other factors that would directly influence the amount used.

My rule of thumb is to use what it takes and use common sense. While I've had a momentary lapse or two in common sense in my day, I've always found that following my instinct and thinking about what I'm doing pays off in the end.

I hate to beat around your question but, it's very up in the air in my opinion. Obviously, you don't want to run a dry pad on paint but, on the flip side of that coin you don't want to 'slop it on' because you'll either have to work a product a considerable amount of time or you might just be wasting it.

You asked specifically about #80/#83 and NXT. My rule of thumb is to make sure I have enough product on my pad with the #80/#83 that I'm able to see it going down on the paint and that it's not, seemingly, running dry. I apply more when I start to see a drying effect on the pad.

With NXT, I've found that it's best to use as needed as well. If the pad seems to be a bit dry, I add more. The trick with NXT (as well as many last step products) is very thin, very even coats so, when I'm not achieving either factor, I'll squeeze some more on to my pad.

Again, I hate to bounce around your question but, it's a very tough one to answer directly.

are you applying by hand or with a PC? I tend to use less product when using with a PC.

On my truck (regular cab/short box/full size) I would say 1.5 - 2.0 ounces per detail = two thin coats using my PC.

I use #81 for a polish and maybe 1.5 ounces per detail. I do use more polish than wax.

      thats my guesstimation.
