What do you guys think the best lighting is for a garage? I currently have basic florescent lights in my home garage but they just aren't enough. It is not a large garage by any means, 18x18 on the big side. I don't know if I should just get a set of dual halogen work lights or look to put a couple fixtures on the ceiling. Thoughts? What has worked best for you?

On a separate thought, I have plans I drew up for an actual separated garage, 30x40, just need the time and $$ to get it built. I have alot of dreams and most will stay at that but at least I will always have them!

    Thanks Al

    Re: Garage Lighting

I run three large florescent fixtures in my ceiling, then use dual 500 watts halogens to see the sides. Keep in mind different types of lights will show different types of defects. Overall, I think florescent makes the most sense as a primary light for a multi-purpose garage, then just get portable lights for other testing.

I have a standard two car garage...I installed five 8 foot double florescents for my basic worklighting. Each fixture has its' own switch, that way I dont' have to light up the world each time i turn on the lights.

Thanks for the input. Yea right now I only have two double fixtures in there. I am thinking maybe getting two larger units and swapping them out so I dont have to run any wires. Then just get one or two twin head halogen lights and setting them up when needed. Thanks guys

Swapping the bulbs out to Daylight will improve it
regular florescents are 3200k changing to daylight 5600k will change the light output and improve it
I have 4, 6 bank 4's and you need sunglasses Garage is 17x19
In the picture below you can see the under counter 3200k single strip are very yellow compared to the bright white of the rest of the garage
