  • "Emergency" Canvas Soft Top Cleaner

Anyone can suggest some solution I can keep in my car to clean the canvas soft top, e.g. bird droppings, till I get to a car wash? I always keep spray detailer in my car but that stuff is probably not safe for the canvas top. I also have a Convertible Top Cleaner, but doesn't seem like can get away without washing my car right afterwards.

    Thanks!

Maybe just water to dissolve it.

M71 Canvas Cleaner from our Marine/RV line is perfect for this as it does not need to be rinsed off. Keep it and a couple of microfiber towels on hand (terry cloth will lint badly onto a black canvas top) and spray and agitate, then wipe off as needed. On my own canvas roofed convertible this is the product I use once a year to deep clean prior to treating with our (now discontinued) M72 Canvas Protectant. The car is garage kept and is basically a weekend toy so it only gets about 4,000 miles exposure per year (mostly with the top down) so it never really gets dirty. But in the event that something nasty does end up on it, M71 works great. You'll have to source it through a marine/rv supply shop like West Marine, Bass Pro Shops, etc.

I use a soft brush on my top between washes. By the time I see the bird droppings , they are dry. I treat the top twice a year, cleaner and UV protection. I brush and rinse with water at wash times, no soap.
