Never buying this * product again. It just ruined my clear coated wheels and I left it on for no more than 15 seconds. It completely stained the clear coated lip of my 2-piece wheels. I feel your pain OP.

All I see is someone who made a mistake because he was too lazy (putting it kindly) to read instructions, and now wants to blame someone else for that mistake. Don't see anything sarcastic or argumentative in Mike's response - if anything, he's being a bit too polite for me. You need to man up and learn to accept the consequences of your actions.

Hardly sounds like an argument to me.

IMO the best way to "end all of this" would be to stop replying to this thread.

Mike obviously wants to argue and I am wanting to end all of this.

Its ok guys. I just feel Meguiar's is behind the times a bit.

There was no sarcasm whatsoever on our part, just stating the reality of the situation. In all honesty, we do feel terrible that this happened, but there does come a point where a company's liability ends and the customer has to take some responsibility for their actions. As others here have pointed out, just "going green" doesn't mean a product is totally incapable of damaging a given surface if used incorrectly.

dinosaur1, going 'green' does not necessarily mean 'safe to leave as long as you want without staining wheels'. 'Green' means environmentally friendly, and while most green products are very safe to handle they can still cause issues when used improperly. A case in point: I mostly use 'green' wheel cleaners mainly for my health as I use them all day, every day. One is made by Michelin (the tyre company) and a couple others are citrus oil based. You can get them on your hand without much issue. But if you leave to dwell on the wheel too long they too can stain the surface. The only 'safe' wheel cleaner is a strong carwash solution, but that only works on not very dirty wheels.

Bottom line, 'green' or not, always follow the instructions and if you don't and get issues (and you will), don't blame the manufacturer.

All chemical based wheel cleaners that I have seen (Meguiars and other brands) have a reccommended dwell time after spraying. They are always in the order of seconds, not minutes.

Let us know if you find an effective wheel cleaner made by another manufacturer where this is not the case..

Again if Meguiar's would make safer products that cannot harm your vehicle (in the day and age of going green) I might re-consider leaving them.

The worst are with wheel cleaners as they the most caustic products used in car care. As I detail for a living I'm most careful with the many brands and types of wheel cleaners I use on clients cars. Sometimes, I have allowed a wheel cleaner to dwell over 1 minute (most suggest much less) and caused myself grief with the staining.

Don't blame the product if the instructions are not followed. I know that's not what you want to hear but that's the real world.

    +1 very well said.

I'm in agreeance with Mr. Stoops, and alfisti here. The bottle does state 15 seconds and you left in on for longer than the suggested time. Now you are upset with the product and apparently the whole company for a mistake YOU made by not reading and following simple instructions on the bottle. You don't have to like the product or the brand but blaming them for YOUR mistake is immature at best. Hopefully your not looking for them to replace your wheels or something like that or some kind of handout. Others have offered their help in correcting the problem and you did try as you have stated. If this is all that can be done without repainting or repairing the wheels then that's all that can be done. Youll just have to deal with your mistake if there is no way to do a DIY repair. Sorry man.

    Btw

Meguiars is also known for making defective spray bottles. Every single Meguiar's product that I purchased with a spray bottle ....failed each and every time.

    Quality products/service...?
    I beg to differ.

The average consumer places their trust in a company they choose to do business with. You represent Meguiar's so whatever you say is also how your company feels. Your sarcasm isn't helping Mike. I also think Meguiar's should Go Green with products like this so this poorly advertised wheel cleaner cannot harm anyone else's rims.

    Here's a suggestion:
You should include a time clock along with this wheel cleaner so people can wait exactly 15 seconds or their wheels are permanently damaged. How foolish is that hey? 25 yrs of cleaning 10 cars that I've owned....this is the first product that I can honestly say FAILED.

I will gladly take my business elsewhere. Your attitude a sarcasm in this forum is not only unprofessional but very disrespectful.

That's a bold statement. To discredit an entire brand because you failed to follow the instructions. I am quite sure that other brands of wheel cleaner would have had the same results had they been left to dwell for several minutes. I use Megs WB on very dirty wheels and always make sure the wheel is cool and hosed down before I apply, then agitate and rinse immediately.

It was you who said you left it on the wheels for several minutes, but the instructions on the bottle say to do so for 15 seconds. That is a huge difference and far outside the recommended use of the product. We hate that this damage has occurred, but you have to understand that when any product is used incorrectly, especially to this extent, there is very little we can do other than offer some suggestions that might help the situation. Sometimes a user makes a mistake that might seem pretty innocuous at the time but that actually has far greater consequences. Unfortunately this appears to be one of those cases.
