  • big big big big problem!!!!

ok guys, so i have a very......."strong" issue in my hands....

Anyway, yesterday i drove 3 hrs down to southern iowa for a classic truck get together/dinner meet etc. and i left around 7pm.

Well anyway about half way home a SKUNK came running out of a ditch RIGHT in front of me and i no more than saw it and CLUNK CLUNK i hit it with BOTH passenger side tires.....now the whole passenger side of my truck smells strongly of skunk.

is there ANYTHING i can do to rid my truck of that smell. I will use odor eliminator in the truck, which as of last night wasnt very strong, but the underside/wheel wells of my truck i believe are fairly bad.

Any ideas? im at a loss and have read a few diff things online but i figured id ask here as well.

I would just head up to the local power car wash place and use that. Their soaps are fairly strong and might cut through that stinky stuff.

Lay down on the ground and pressure wash underneath for a good 10-15 minutes.

If you have a foam gun or a foam attachment for a pressure washer I would try something like that to clean & kill off the odor.

Re: big big big big problem!!!!

I would doubt that the skunk smell/liquid could bond to the outside of your car very well. There isn't anything very pours so a wash should eliminate most/all of the stink. As mentioned, try a power washer. If that doesn't get rid of the smell 100%, I assume the rest will fade with time.
Had a skunk dies inside your car and it's stink was engulfed in your carpet, that would be a different story.

It's unlikely, but if you have anywhere you can take your vehicle that is below freezing do that. Most odors are types of bacteria and other organisms, and below the freezing point of water, they die; Getting rid of the biological smell.

I found this link and article. Doesn't call for a power washer, so a garden sprayer might do the job to get to the undercarriage. Also, imagine air drying would work.

Can't vouch for the info, but might get you started on your own internet search. Hope it helps:

"I have heard of many time consuming home remedies for removing skunk smell from cars and I will share some with you that worked for me...

This method can also be used to remove skunk odor from car undercarriages....Just mix up a large batch of your homemade skunk odor remover, and douse your undercarriage, wheels and grill with the product. Let it air dry, then rinse and dry again.

Here is what you will need:

                  1 Quart of Hydrogen Peroxide
                  1/4 cup of Baking soda
                  2 teaspoons of dish detergent
                  1 Large open topped basin

                  Method of removal:

In your open topped basin, pour the baking soda in first, followed by the hydrogen peroxide. Let it foam, then add the dish detergent. Mix well. ....get the surfaces wet, let it sit for several minutes, then blot dry.... . Repeat as necessary, until that nasty skunk smell is gone."

                  NOTE
Be sure to mix and use ingredients immediately. The foaming action of the Hydrogen Peroxide allows the mixture to really get into fabrics and dispel the oils from the skunk spray. However, DO NOT MIX INGREDIENTS IN CLOSED CONTAINERS. The chemical reaction of the ingredients can cause containers to explode.

This is a tried and true method, but it takes time and energy."

Glad to hear you got the stink out Zach. It's that time of the year around here, they are everywhere just waiting for someone to mess with them!! I cringe every time I see a skunk, especially if they expired on the road. I never had a direct hit with them but I'm sure it's nothing pleasant!!
PPLd, I think Cummins are top notch, their engines save my rear end and plenty of my friends over in the Mid East, they never let us sit which is a very.....VERY good thing!
