  • RUGS: APC+ and technique I learned from Megs is great for house carpet

The carpet in my hallway has years of wear on it, including ground in oils and dirt.
So, I figured I would try out a technique I read here:

Start a New Thread or Discuss proper care for all interior surfaces including leather, vinyl, rubber, colored plastics, carpets, upholstery, and glass.

After rereading Shyneman's thread, I got out the following and assumed the kneeling position in my hallway:

    1. Spray bottle of APC+ 10:1.
    2. Spray bottle of ONR.
    3. Polyester wheel brush with "flagged", soft bristles which I kept soaking in the ONR bucket
    4. 2 Gallon bucket with 1 gal. water and enough ONR for a faint tint of blue.
I only used it for the 'no rinse" feature.
    5. Cotton terry towels.

-I worked a comfortable area: for me about 3x3'. Got on my knees and...

-I misted with APC+ so the tips of the rug fibers were wetted...
then gently massaged it in with the damp brush and let it sit for about a minute.

-Rewetted the area with ONR spray.

-Took a towel, rolled it into a tube and scrubbed it back in forth over the fibers, repeated, re-rolled the towel to a clean part and repeated until dirt stopped coming up. [Maybe 4-5 times]

Then, I went to another 3x3 area.

I did about 15 square feet and quit when I was too tired to detail it. The attention to detail thing I learned here. After I practice a little more I think I will be ready to try it on my interior. I think the secret is don't think about getting the job done, think about getting each 3x3 section done right and quit when you lose focus. I only want to do this once, then it's just maintaining it.

APC+ rocks, protocol rocks: no residue and the towels were black.

Thanks for the great forum and shared experiences.

APC+ really is good stuff. I use it to clean the counter tops in my bathroom, it works and it's super economical. I hear the glass cleaner is equally good inside the house, but I haven't tried it yet.

I can vouch for the glass concentrate.
All the house windows and mirrors get cleaned with it.
It's a chore I don't mind doing because I know how easy it is to use.
One of those secrets I won't tell the girlfriend.

I always follow up with a wet terry cloth wipedown.

You might want to check in the carpet in a few days and feel how it is, if its hard and stiff then there is still cleaner residue.

I also pressure wash all carpeted floormats as well, that really pulls the gunk out of them.

You can use a Final Rinse (carpet cleaning supply house) that will neutralize the carpet back to its natural state and dissolve any soap residue that leads to the crunch..
