  • Looking for advice on care of a new paint job on classic car...

My 66 Chevelle comes home next week after getting a new paint job.
It is black (is there any other color) base coat clear coat.
The shop put a lot of time into prep work. There was no body damage or rust, that was all taken care of a year or so ago.
After the paint was applied, the shop spend another 40 hours wet sanding and buffing to take out and minor flaws in the clear coat.

I have Meguiars D/A and the MF correction system... and I have taken the Saturday Class at Meguiars. I want to get the best from the new paint job.. It is not a show car.. but a Sunday driver that I will take to a few shows.

Any suggestions to make this car really pop....

When you go to pick up your ride check for any paint imperfections: orange peel, holograms, swirls, etc, which very often may be left by body shops/ paint shops. To do that pull the vehicle into sun or use swirl-finding light.

Expect your fresh paint to be softer than factory paints. Use gentle approach while washing: soft and good quality car soap (like Meg's Gold Class Shampoo/ Conditioner or Ultimate Wash & Wax), microfiber wash mitt, two bucket method and soft microfiber drying towel.

Do not wax your fresh paint for at least 30 days (ask your painter for recommendations on timing) to let it fully out gas.

One thing I would do is watch the Meguiars videos on Youtube especially the proper way to wash your car.

Now that it is swirl and scratch free, keep it that way by washing it correctly.
        My shop nightmare!!!
