  • Big Job

    Hey Guys,

Just got into Detailing recently. Really fascinated by it and i want to know how it feels to put in those hours into my cars and make them look pristine. As I'm going through all the videos and forums, i just want to make sure if i have all the right information, equipments and products to detail my car. I know this is going to be a huge and monumental favor from you guys- but i would like it if you guys could kind of give me details on what to use and how to go about it on 4 cars(or if its the same on every car). Also if it could include information on the interior/leather cleaning as well:

    1) Porsche Cayman S- Cobalt Exterior and a brownish/terracotta interior

    2) Mercedes SLK 280 fab design-Silver exterior and a black interior

    3) BMW 7 series- Dark grey exterior and black interior

    4) Ferrari 612 Scaglietti - Black exterior(Nero) and Red(Rosso) and carbon fiber interiors

    Thanks Guys

Its really pretty much the same every time, at least as far as starting off gentle. And I assume working by hand? Then it just changes if you need to move into stronger defect removal type of things.

    1. Wash - Gold Class soap, 2 buckets, Grit Guards if possible, good quality towels, mitts, etc.
    2. Clay - Smooth Surface Clay kit, or the mild (blue) Professional Clay + a spray lube.
    3. Clean - The mild cleaner would be Ult. Polish, or SwirlX if cant find Ult. Polish. The stronger cleaner would be Ult. Compound.
    4. Wax - Your favorite waxes here... Ult. Wax, Nxt 2.0, Gold Class+, #26 are all popular.
    5. Wax - 2 thin coats are best.

    6. Maintain - Ult. Quick Wax is good for after future washes.

The interiors would be similar as well.

Quick Interior Detailer is good for dusting (plastic, leather).
APC or APC+ is good for the occasional stronger cleaning (plastic, leather).

Then you would probably want something like Natural or Supreme Shine for a plastic dressing.
And the Gold Class Leather Cleaner/Conditioner for basic leather care.

Murr laid out the correct steps. A more detailed article can be found here: Meguiar's 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

I would at least get the Ultimate Compound and Ultimate Polish to start with as your cleaner polishes. These will remove paint defects and swirl marks.

Have you considered purchasing a dual action polisher? I would suggest you get the G110v2 D/A from Meguiar's. Not only will your hands and arms thank you but it will make the entire polishing/waxing process much easier and faster.

Fly Nick Chapman over there for a week. He will probably bring you everything you will need and teach you how. He may not be cheap!
