  • What is a little stronger than colorX

I was preparing my vehicle for it's wax job, and noticed that there were scratch marks on the trunk of my car. Normally ColorX will take out anything I usually encounter, but not these. They are not deep and cannot be felt with a fingernail, but for once, ColorX just will not do the job.. Looks like some animal (probably a cat...I hate cats) was on the roof and slid down the back window, and put the brakes on halfway down the trunk, did a little dance, and slid off.
I have ScratchX, but I am not fond of it. Is there something like ColorX, but a little stronger, and I can use to buff the whole trunk using a little buffer (not a DA)? It doesn't have to be a wax product, just something with a very little more cutting action.
    Thank you.

I think swirlX is the next best thing you can try. It sits somewhere in between scratchX 2.0 and colorX.

If you want to stay with all-in-one products then M66 Quik Detailer and D151 Paint Reconditioning Cream will be next on aggressiveness chart of cleaner waxes.

        Here's a handy chart:

Swirl-X is definitely the next step up from Color-X in cut, but it's not a wax. I suggest you consider Ultimate Compound for those types of situations. Yes, it's much stronger, but you can titrate the amount of cut and/or correction based on how you apply it (hand or DA, for example), on how much pressure you apply with, and with the type of pad you use. The UC is very versatile, very safe, and gets great results.

We'd recommend going to ScratchX 2.0 or Ultimate Compound but easing into the application with it. As dtuna42 points out, you can greatly vary the amount of cut you get from either product by how you apply it. As an example, last year at Barrett-Jackson in Las Vegas someone asked me if I could remove some sanding marks that had been missed in the final prep of a car they had just restored and were selling at the event. I had no choice at the time to work by hand, and since I was very limited with product on hand at the time, I went with M105. A moderate application showed I was making some headway, and that the paint was pretty darn soft. I stepped up the application effort and removed the sanding marks pretty effectively, but the paint still looked a bit hazed. I then followed with ever decreasing pressure with M105 and lightly worked it out to a very nice finish indeed. Balance the aggression with the finesse and you should be able to address this to your satisfaction. Worst case scenario, the UC leaves a bit of haze which is then easily cleaned up with ColorX prior to your LSP.

Thanks folks. I have ScratchX (one I guess) so rather than trying Scratchx 2.0, maybe UC is the way to go.

Well, it is on mine now, and while ColorX will always be my "go to" product before waxing, that UC is great stuff. The trunk looks fantastic. Thanks again all.
