I use the protocol you are referring to, modified by some of the posts I have read by experienced detailers.
If I am working on a well maintained car I would use Megs Wash n' Wax soap in the gun/waste-basket. [Only because Ult. Wax is my fav.] I would then use Ult Spray wax for a booster on a well maintained car. Or maybe a coat of 26 for the carnuba glow.

The rinse for the car wash soap you might use would still be the ONR. (Which is guaranteed not to remove wax, only to encapsulate contaminants. I have used Wash 'n wax in the foam gun and although very low suds, the soap clings very well and plays well with ONR.

I try to stick with Megs, because I guess I have ADD . I enjoy the variety of products and wealth of experience on other sites, but, get overwhelmed with choices I am not yet experienced enough to evaluate.
