  • Help I have over spray!

    Hi,
I am looking for some help from all you experts out there.
I have a Black New Beetle convertible that i just got in December.
The car has been outside 24/7 for the last 3 months. It has pretty much been raining in San Diego the entire time.
I have only washed it twice and it never seemed to come clean.
I did the car care prescription on Meguiars.com before I found out I had over spray. I use to use a mail order product on my other car but after attending a Mequiars Detail Day with my car club I decided that my new car would be a Meguiars car.
The car care prescription recommended that I wash it the Gold Class Car wash, then use Scratch X for surface prep, then the Deep Crystal System Polish followed by the Gold Class Clear Coat Car Wax. I used all the above products but I also clayed it after i washed it. So 2 days later a lot of elbow grease and the use of the orbital, the paint feels great and all the little scratches and swirls are all most gone but the over spray is still there.
Is there a product in the professional line that might get the over spray off ?
Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi:

    Can you post a picture?

Did the clay remove any of the over spray?

Do you know how the over spray got on the car?

What does the over spray look like, small bumps?

Can you pop it loose with your finger nail?

    Regards,

I was just reading the "How To Post a Picture"
Our home has been under construction for a year. I was always careful to move the cars out to the street. I am sure it happened when they were painting the trim or something.
It is really hard to see the over spray in the pictures.
Would it help to find out what kind of paint was sprayed around the house?
Does the fact that it didn't come off when I clayed and used the paint cleaner mean I have to have it wet sanded?
      Thanks.

        Hi Paula,

Here's a picture of a truck that we removed overspray from using our Quik Clay System.

        Close-up

Small are that has been clayed

Before trying a more aggressive clay, try claying again one small area like in the picture above. Start with a clean car, then lubricate your clay and the finish and focus your attention to just a small area and clay it using 2-4 pounds of downward pressure. Jump in there and work a small area and see if it's possible to remove the overspray from just one small area.

        Post back here your results.

This may be case of taking it to a professional to have this done. You certainly don't want to wet-sand your car's finish.

          Thanks Mike,
boy that truck has a lot more overspray than my car. Someone else mentioned if I clayed it and it didn't come off and you couldn't feel the over pray then it has bonded with my cars paint.
          Does that sound right?
I think I will work some more with the clay and then if I can't do it I will take it somewhere. I am close to a Meguiars Detail shop it is located at the San Diego Auto Collection, I can take it there and see what they can do.
See you April 9th at the Detail Day For the Southern CA. New Beetle Club.
I will try to post pic's later.
