I'm assuming you're talking about Lake Country pads. I also don't like how much pads they have.
This is one reason why you should use Meguiar's pads. They have the cutting, polishing and finishing pads. In most situations, if not all, you only need to get the yellow polishing pads and the black finishing pads. You will use the yellow polishing pads for defect removal and the black finishing pads for polishing/waxing. Can't get any simpler than that. Plus, they're machine washable!!!
LC's Hydro-Tech line simplifies things a bit (cut/polish/finish). I would have stuck with Meg's pads if they were available in 5.5," but the HTs are working well for me so far.
Yea, there are a lotta choices.
I have bunch of Griot's Garage pads for my GG6 & GG3 , orange for polish, red for wax, yellow for scrubbing carpets/ rubber mats/tires, and thin white ones for glass.
I also bought a 12 pk of 4" Buff & Shine pads for my GG3
I also plan on getting a Megs backing plate and some Megs yellow & black 7" pads....just because they are Megs
really wish there was a standard color the industry uses to code pads....

All I can say is their 7.5 in size, yellow and orange for compounding, white and baby blue for polishing and red is a finishing pad!
These pads are being teamed up with the Dynabrade D.A head, orange(light compounding) and a white(polishing) pad powered by my dewalt rotary.
