  • Heavily oxidized paint

Just joined this forum. My dilemma: I now drive and maintain two 2005 Peterbilt TV broadcast trucks. Both are white with heavily oxidized paint with some ghosting of previous lettering on the doors. I am sure they have never been waxed and they sit outside in the Texas sun. I am buying a PC orbital polisher. What would be the most efficient way to get a decent work vehicle shine. I am interested in durability most of all. These are big trucks. I was thinking of Ultimate Compound followed by whichever wax is most durable. Any advice?

    to MOL!

I would suggest using Meguiar's Ultimate Compound along with the W8207 Softbuff 2.0 Polishing Pads. Mike Stoops has had great success using this combo in his saturday classes. Here's a link of all the threads that show before/after shots in using this combo in the saturday classes: Pictures from Saturday Classes

Just look at the picture stamped in the bottle of Ultimate Compound:

It completely removed the MB's oxidation!

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help. Which liquid wax would you recommend to follow up with for best durability? This will be a time consuming job I hope not to have to do too often!

Ultimate wax it is! I will have to apply and remove both of these products with the buffer since the arthritis in my hands has gotten pretty bad the last couple of years. Which pads would be proper for removing the Ultimate Compound and applying and removing the wax? I will have to order these with the buffer. If I have to do it by hand I could, I suppose...just don't want to destroy what is left of my golf club grip!

Ultimate Wax is Meguiar's most durable wax offered.

You should also try Meguiar's NXT 2.0. I like how this wax looks on white.

I would suggest the W8207 Softbuff 2.0 Polishing Pad to apply the Meguiar's Ultimate Compound and the W9207 Softbuff 2.0 Finishing Pad to apply your favorite wax. You can just use any type of MF towel to remove it. I've seen people use a microfiber bonnet to remove wax/polish using a D/A. I don't think Meguiar's offers that anymore and I never really like doing that. If you insist, I would just press a MF towel against a clean foam pad and turn the machine on to remove the wax/polish using the D/A. No need for a bonnet IMO.

Honestly, trying to remove the UC residue with the buffer is going to be pretty frustrating. You can't do it with a foam pad like you would when applying the product, so you'd be constantly swapping between your buffing pad and another pad with a microfiber bonnet wrapped over it. But you'd saturate that bonnet so quickly that you'd have to have a few dozen of them to get the job done. And you would still be swapping back and forth every couple of minutes. You might try just trapping a folded towel between a clean pad and the paint to remove the residue, but that's going to be cumbersome at best - but you'd still be swapping pads constantly. And you can't really let UC or any other paint cleaner just dry on the finish and wipe it all off later on because wipe off becomes a real chore when it does dry.

Now taking the wax off with a bonnet wrapped pad is fairly common practice so that will work for you just fine.

Great advice! As soon as the weather cools off here (if ever!) I am jumping on this project. Will the Meguiar's buffers be available soon? I would prefer buying one from you guys since this forum is so good.

Any chance you are dealing with single stage paint??
