  • Grit Guard Alternative

First I'm not trying to be cheap, and would buy a couple except the shipping for one is about the cost of the item itself. I was wondering if anyone has something else they use instead. I have the same problem with Meguiar's microfiber products.

I don't see much of an alternative honestly, but if you check Meguiars webpage you may be able to find a local PBE shop that could order them for you which wouldn't charge you shipping. That or wait until you have a large enough order to get free shipping from some place like ADS or AutoGeek.

        Re: Grit Guard Alternative

There was a thread here a while (2 - 3 years?) ago where somebody made their own alternative to grit guards.

I seem to recall it was made by modifying the lid of a bucket. I remember it was quite impressive. Perhaps try doing a search?

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I'm pretty sure this is the thread I'm thinking of:

I made a slide show out of my home made grit guard. I could not find the real thing around here (Mississauga Canada). So here goes http://www.strungoutonfreeware.com/ImprovisedDirtFilterWashBucketAndRinseBucket/someofthetoolsused.html Disclaimer:I am a newb so don't use this on your Porsche OK -buy the real thing.:D

Though unfortunately the link to his pics no longer works. Perhaps reply to that thread or send him a PM?

            Re: Grit Guard Alternative

After searching for a while I found a online store were I was able to purchase two Grit Guards plus shipping for approx. $15.00. Since most retailers want $9.00 each for the guards, It's was like getting free shipping.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post a link or name the retailer so better safe then sorry.
