I would recommend using something like turpentine before resorting to gasoline. Another possibility is something citrus, such as lemon juice. BillyJack recommended a few posts back to try using Mr Clean Magic Eraser and I've heard good results, so you may want to try that too. Any chance you could get a photo or two of the problem areas? Sounds like it's caked on there good!

If you do want to test with gasoline I would try in a small spot, see what happens and then thoroughly clean it to make sure any gasoline residue is gone.

Your afraid to use a diluted degreaser such as Purple Power or APC but you want to use gasoline on the trim? Purple Power 10:1 or APC 4:1 should be safe on pain as long as you dont bake it on in the sun and leave it sit for too long.

Like I said, try the above combined with a power washer and at a last resort use Stoners Tarminator.

You need to put a little passion behind your working material too.

I understand your frustrated but Meguiars is not really at fault, I am sure they are doing the best they can.

Next time do not get wax on the trim, and as for the powdercoated steps, show us a pic since, they may just be darkened up and not ruined.

I am totally furious at this point and there will be a phone call tomorrow...

So far I have tried

Simple Green
WD-40
Purple Power Degreaser
Gasoline
Peanut Butter
Mothers Back to Black
Meguiars #39 heavy duty cleaner
Dawn dish soap

I SOAKED the fenders and steps today in undiluted simple green and scrubbed/washed after a 10 minute of soaking and nothing came off.

I don't care so much about my fenders as I am going to replace them some day but my steps were here to stay and they aren't cheap they are solid metal with powdercoating.


My friend who works at a body shop told me today to try "Spray 9" on it and it will probably come off but im skeptical if everything else failed...

Am I at fault for getting the wax on the plastic, yes absolutely, but at some point it will inevitably get on something regardless and the fact that the manufacturer has no idea how to remove it is ridiculous.

I've used M40 to get wax off of trim, or Gold Class trim detailer works good, rub hard.

Tape it up next time.

Those pink pencil erasers are supposed to work pretty well.
Do you have pictures of the side steps? I'm just curious to see them and the staining as I've used M26 on paint, powdercoating, metal, plastic (not the black textured trim plastic, though, it's always come off relatively easy for me) and so on with no issues.

A common thing to use on Jeep trim is a heat gun, too. It is usually used on faded and weathered trim to restore the original look. You have to exercise extreme caution, obviously.
