  • Washing and Waxing?

Well this is my first time ever doing this so i dont really know much at all.

First i wash my car with car soap and sponge, i pressure washer rinse before and after soaping.
I only did the hood because i didnt have the time becuase i didnt think it would take this long, but on the hood i used the meguiars clay kit, and the cleaner wax, then i used ultimate compound to remove the swirl marks etc, then i used the nxt 2.0 tech wax. it seemed to have worked pretty well, im going to be washing my car and doing this to the rest of it tommorow for the sunday cruise. so clay the rest of the car, cleaner wax it too, then ultimate compound and nxt 2.0. does this sound good to you's? what should i do for the hood should i redo the nxt 2.0 or anyhting or just wash it and leave it because i did the clay and wax like 6 days ago i think. P.S my car is a 1990, and it is white, but is in great shape. and how should i wash the microfibre towels and sponges? If You need anymore details just ask and i will reply asap, because i would love to know how to do this asap because im doing it tommorow. Thanks Alot For info Always!

Well, not much we can do then...

First i wash my car with car soap and sponge, i pressure washer rinse before and after soaping.

    .

Working in sections is ok. Using the UC certainly takes longer than just waxing, however you got a little out of order there. Not sure if you meant to or not.

it seemed to have worked pretty well, im going to be washing my car and doing this to the rest of it tommorow for the sunday cruise. so clay the rest of the car, cleaner wax it too, then ultimate compound and nxt 2.0. does this sound good to you's?
    Yeah, ok.. out of order.

What you want to do is either:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay if needed
    3. Clean - This is where you would use a mild cleaner like SwirlX/Ult. polish, and/or a strong cleaner like Ult. Compound. If your hood seemed fine after the UC, there would be no need to follow up with anything, and you could go on to waxing. In the future, when there are no defects to fix, you would just want to use the milder cleaner or cleaner/wax
    4. Wax
    5. Wax

    1. Wash
    2. Clay if needed
    3. Cleaner/Wax or ColorX
    4. Wax

    6. Maintain - Ult. Quick Wax is great for after future washes.

what should i do for the hood should i redo the nxt 2.0 or anyhting or just wash it and leave it because i did the clay and wax like 6 days ago i think.
The hood should be fine, though you could do a spray wax, or UQD maybe.

P.S my car is a 1990, and it is white, but is in great shape. and how should i wash the microfibre towels and sponges?
I wash the towels in the machine. I tend to just do the hand applicators by hand in a bucket of Dawn.

Removing the swirls by hand is hard work, but just do what you can. If you dont quite get them all, can do more next time.

I wash towels in the washing machine, but if they are really filthy I will rinse them out in a bucket of Dawn and hot water first so I don't gunk up the washing machine and/or the other items in there with them.

K so im maybe doing it today, not positive though, But get this 100% clear, Wash the whole car normally, even the hood which i did already, then Clay the rest of the car, not the hood because its already done? Then Ult Compound on rest of the car and redo the hood if its not good enough for me? Then ill just use the cleaner wax on the rest of the car because its only a small bottle and might as well just use it, then Tech 2.0 wax on the whole car, one or 2 coats? And do you recomend turtle wax ice for trim and stuff? and i heard using that as a top coat gives it a more " wet " look? Sorry for so much questions just wanna make sure im doin it perfect. And ive seen a lot of your posts around so you seem like you know what your doing. Thanks Alot Bro

Oh and one more thing, it might rain tommorow, so if i still wax it tonight and it gets a bit dirty, can i just like wash it and will it still be shiny and whatnot or will i have to re-apply the nxt 2.0?

                    Yeah, wash it all.

then Clay the rest of the car, not the hood because its already done?
Yeah, you just need to clay when needed. Usually it takes a couple months for enough stuff to build up to clay. Though you could drive through something bad at any time of course, so you can check. But would be unlikely to need it.

Then Ult Compound on rest of the car and redo the hood if its not good enough for me?
Yeah, removing swirls, esp by hand, can take some time. Up to you what is good enough or not.

Then ill just use the cleaner wax on the rest of the car because its only a small bottle and might as well just use it,
That would count as the first coat of wax then.

then Tech 2.0 wax on the whole car, one or 2 coats?
Can always do what you like of course, but since 2 coats of wax is recomended, the Cleaner/Wax (assuming you allowed it to dry before removing) would count as one coat, then one coat of Nxt would be the two.

And do you recomend turtle wax ice for trim and stuff?
Well, no... but if it is what you have.

and i heard using that as a top coat gives it a more " wet " look?
The 'looks' of wax is pretty much personal, and can change on the person, the color paint, etc, etc. Nothing wroing with trying a panel, and seeing if it looks any better/worse to you eye.

Not sure exactly what you mean, but say you got your first coat of wax on, and removed, and then it rained. You could just Quick Detail after, or the next day, and then apply the second coat of wax.

If you had to go driving in the rain, lots of splash/spray,, then you would probably want to wash before the second coat.

                          Re: Washing and Waxing?

quick question, after washing should a chamois be used to dry the car before applying UQW? Should I use a microfiber to dry the car or just leave to dry by itself then apply the UQW?
                          Thanks for any help

                            Re: Washing and Waxing?

Well, I like to do quick wipe down first to get the bulk of the water, then a second go around with a dry towel to get the rest, and I will spray the UQW while doing the second wipe.

You could use a chamois for the first wipe, but I dont know how they would work with a wax, or how well a wax would wash out when you clean it, if you could clean it, etc.

Ok no worries. Do you just use a microfibre for the initial wipe down? I guess what I'm essentially asking is will a microfibre cloth/towel be ok to dry the car instead of a chamois? I've not read much on here about people using a chamois before UQW. Thanks for your quick response also.
