  • Removing emblems

Okay, I am sick and tired of the emblems on the rear hatch of my Vue. All they do is collect dirt and never quite look nice. I think they break up the trunk in a bad way too. So this weekend I want to remove them. They are attached via adhesive so does anyone have any suggestions as to how to get them off as cleanly and safely as possible?

    Thanks,
    Andy

    Hair dryer, then floss.

Then some Goo Gone, etc for the residue.

Heat gun or hair dryer, dental floss or fishing line. To remove the remaining glue I always use 3m adhesive remover. Much stronger than goo gone but still safe for automotive paint. Then follow up with something such as Ultimate Compound and your favorite wax.

Dental floss. So easy you'll laugh. I got those vtech stickers on my civic door. Took me 2 hours with a hair dryer and a fingernail. After goo gone and UC then UW its looks so nice and like glass. Now for the other side UGH! Anyone got a better idea?

Like KyleGates said heat gun if you can, hair dryer will do. 3M adhesive remover is much better than googone. Works quicker and less effort. Fishing line is the way to go also. This way will take alot less than 2 hours.

            Re: Removing emblems

I just took one off my car and here is what I did:

            1. Heated the emblem with a hair dryer (A hair dryer wont ever get hot enough to damage paint like a heat gun can). Make sure to go back and forth so you heat the entire emblem even.

            2. Use floss and get it behind the emblem and kind of use a back and forth motion to cut through the adhesive tape a little bit.

            3. Use your finger and rub the remaining adhesive tape if any is left on. Don't use your finger nail only your finger so you don't scratch your paint.

            4. Use some rubbing alcohol to remove the sticky residue that is left. Be careful not to let it drip on your car.

            5. Polish, then wax the area where the emblem was / where the rubbing alcohol touched the paint.
