  • Question about #7 durability....in the sun

How long will #7 retain it's "wet look" properties if applied the morning before an outdoor show without any wax topcoat?

Note: I live in NORCAL and frequent Sacramento Valley shows where temps can reach 90-100 degrees. I only drive my truck to and from shows and occasional cruises, it never sees water and is garaged all the time. So protection is not really an issue.

Does anyone use just #7 prior to a outdoor show, if so will the shine last through the afternoon sun without the protection of a wax topcoat? ...or is it always necessary to polish w/#7 and wax afterward (this is what I do now but do I really need the extra step?)

That's actually a fairly common old school use for M07 (hence the name, Show Car Glaze). For the day of the show it will serve you well. After several days and a good washing, however, most of it will be gone.

Re: Question about #7 durability....in the sun

I can't say I've ever done any real testing as to M07's durability, but I've been using it since Richard Nixon was President, so I've got a bit of experience.
IMO, it will last a weekend outdoors. Indoors, a good week, maybe two weeks at best. Either rainfall or a wash job wipes it out. Despite all the newer technologies, it's still my product of choice when I want a true "wet look" and don't mind a bit of effort for a short term return. Since my garage queen El Camino is also a part-time fair-weather driver and the SS lacquer is getting up there in age, I no longer use M07 alone. Typically, I'll give it a good rub with M07, then use a sealant or wax for longer-term protection. I've been through dozens of products trying to find one that doesn't actually diminish the reflective quality I've achieved using M07. NXT paste has worked well for me, as well as Collinite 845 and a Dodo Juice blend. On the night before a show or cruise, it will get a quick rubdown with M07.
Here's one of my favorite sun pics. This was taken three weeks after an M07 show prep, but I used Optimum Spray Wax as a booster before picture day:
