  • looking for the safest product to remove water stains(by hand)

Hi,all. My car has lots of water stains on the surface. they are all small dots with a darker color(bit darker than my car's color). also I have some stains on the windows. they look like etched into/ or underneath the painting, so I am unable to remove them by any kind of wash or polish. I m looking for a product from Meguiars, which can SAFELY remove those water stains.

some suggested me to use scratch 2.0, some suggested ultimate compound, and interestingly both are from Meguiars. So I really have no idea which one to use.

What i have to confess is that i dont have any machine polisher so have to do all the work by hands. and my hands are really stupid. THUS I would like to use some products not too abrasive or aggressive, b/c I dont want to mess up the generally beautiful painting of my car(if regardless of those annoying stains).

    so what's your suggestions?

plus tips should I notice during the work?

    many many thanks!!

Clay and then a cleaner like SwirlX or Ultimate Compound.

There is a recent thread on this very topic, search for Water Spots. UC did the trick for him bit it was hours of hard work, probably because he did not clay before.

For windows, I would go with claying followed by either Ultimate Compound applied via a terry cloth towel/applicator or M04 Heavy Cut Cleaner via terry cloth.

M04 may work better because it has really large diminishing abrasives that chew through the waterspots on the surface. Ultimate Compound will probably also work. I have had luck with both of them using both a terry towel and a cutting pad on a Meguiars G110v2.

For paint, I would go with either Swirlx or Ultimate Compound via foam applicator, NOT TERRY CLOTH. Terry cloth is usually too aggressive for paint but when working with glass there is no risk of scratching and you need the extra bite of a terry cloth for glass. On paint, a simple foam applicaotr and either of the 2 aforementioned products should work well.

But also, if these are fresh waterspots (not etched) then they may be removed by a simple quik detailer or waterless wash like Meguiars Last Touch Spray Detailer.

I just removed some stubborn water spots from my glass with ScratchX 2.0 today. I started with glass cleaner, but that did nothing. I then tried removing them with clay...no change. I then moved on the 5% white vinegar and that didnt do a thing. I went for the ScratchX 2.0 and it removed the stains without much effort.
