  • Will I notice much from Ultimate Wax?

I just finished claying my Jeep and then applying one coat of cleaner wax. With the exception of a few water spots, it looks great. I tried a second coat of the cleaner wax on the water spots, but it didn't help much. I was thinking Ultimate Compound for these areas. Do you agree?

Since I've gotten excellent results from the cleaner wax, will I notice much if I apply a coat of Ultimate Wax?

I'm trying to practice on this vehicle before moving on to my black mini-van.

Ultimate wax contains no cleaners so you're likely not to see any improvement for water stains.

If the stain is actually etched into the paint you may need some ultimate compound to work it out (using a decent amount of elbow grease).

Don't forget to re-wax the areas you used ultimate compound on. That should do the trick for you.

Thanks... But will I notice much of a difference in shine between CW and UW?

I've never actually compared the two but I doubt you'd see any difference if any between the two in regards to shine.

If you're looking for shine you could polish then wax.

Cleaner Wax, as its name implies, contain cleaning agent to clean the paint and it is also a wax. Ultimate Wax is supposed to be the most long-lasting wax in Meguiars line of products. Different waxes do give different shine to the car. This is more obvious to dark cars. Pure carnauba wax like Yellow Wax, DC3 gives more depth and warmth to black cars, etc, etc.

It's always good to apply 2 coats of wax for even coverage. Since you have already applied CW, you should consider UW as 2nd coat.

Honestly with something like wax the only way to see if you can notice a difference is to do two sections of the hood (or some other panel) with each wax and see if you notice a difference. I can't look at a car, then apply a different wax, then step back and see a difference. I need to be able to see them both at once, as I suspect most people do.

That being said, I think CleanerWax is a tremendously underappreciated product on these forums. It really does leave a pretty nice shine, and it's very cheap.

I have the UW and planned on applying a coat, but actually thought about taking it back. At this point, I think I'm going to try to fix some of the water marks with a cleaner like UC, apply a coat of cleaner wax over those areas, and then do a coat of UW.

Next time, I want to try wash, colorX, UW. My Jeep is dark blue, so colorX sounds like the product of choice. This is probably to procedure I will use on my black van too.

Now I just have to find some Trim Detailer for my faded trim and the Jeep will look like new.

Without any doubt at all you will notice a significant gain in the longevity of the wax, as well as its ability to bead/sheet water away. You should also notice that it takes less effort to wash and dry your vehicle in subsequent washes.

In terms of cosmetics, some may see it, some may not. As a general rule, a cleaner wax base coat followed by a sealant like UW is a great combo for excellent longevity.

1- the term of cleaning in "CW" means removing the fine swirls (similar to ColorX) or it's about cleaning the dirt and pollution to prepare the paint for waxing?
2- i can't recognize differences between CW and ColorX by Meg's descriptions. in which cases we should use ColorX before UW and when it's preferred to use CW before it?

If anyone can tell the difference in shine between any wax side by side they have eagle eyes! However, its easier to see that Meguiars can "ruin my seats"!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

                        Hey Fussman,

I've wondered where you've been. Did you get banned from Autogeek? You cause trouble wherever you go don't you? I bet you got beat up a lot in school.

But, you're right, Meguiars leather cleaner DID ruin my seats. I'll never use or recommend the product again.

Ouch on the seat issue. Whats up MEGS?

You guys wouldn't wax then seal right? So why use a cleaner wax then a sealant? The polymers of the sealant wont bond to a waxed surface. Am I right?

I don't know if you'd notice a different. You might, but many of us find UW a bit hard to use.

I think you'd find NXT or Gold Class looks better than Cleaner wax. Or feel better, or last longer, some benefit.

You might also find COLOR X to be better than Cleaner Wax, and it's also a cleaner wax, but a bit more potent.

IMO, UW seems to have higher reflectivity and a slicker surface feel. You will also notice longer lasting protection.

If working with UW (liquid) you can work in the sun and it won't stain textured vinyl trim and you can't do that with CW.
