I just got a porter cable da polisher for my b day . Ive looking on the autogeek site to purchase pads there are so many differnt types im not sure what ones to purchase. Which pads would be the best ones to get the meguiars soft buff ones or the lake country ones? i want to get a 6pack of them how many of each type of pad would i need also?What size pad would you recommend using the 6.5in or the 5.5 in ones? i heard you can wash the soft buff pads in the washing machine and dry them in the dryer also is this true.

Re: got a Pc have some questions on Pads
You have several options of buffing pads for your brand new D/A polisher.
Meguiar's:
Soft Buff 2.0 pads - 7"diameter, you need 2-3 of each yellow polishing and black finishing (they can be machine washed/ dried), backing plate W68DA 5.75";
6.5" buffing pads x006 series, you need 2-3 of each yellow polishing and tan finishing (hand wash only), backing plate W67DA 5";
4" spot buffing pads x204, for tight spaces and hard to reach areas, 2-3 of each yellow polishing and black finishing, backing plate S3BP.
Lake Country Mfg.:
You can get their buffing pads in CCS (collapsed cell), Hydro-Tech or flat version. You needed 2-3 of orange light cutting pads (Hydro-Tech cyan cutting pad), white polishing pads (Hydro-Tech tangerine polishing pad) and black, blue or red finishing pads (Hydro-Tech crimson pad).
LC pads come as 6.5", 5.5" and 4" diameter. They also have them as low profile (7/8" thin) version for dual action machines. Their backing plates are 6", 5" and 3.5".
If you could get buffing pad combo deal it would save some money buying them that way. Check AutoGeek and ADS for their specials.

Re: got a Pc have some questions on Pads
Depends on the size of vehicle you're working on, too. Right now I've only got 7 and 4" SoftBuff pads, and the 7" pads are overkill for my car. I'll be purchasing a 5" backing plate and some 5.5" pads soon, as I think that size will be a better compromise between covering more area and being able to work in tighter spaces.
