  • holograms caused by d/a ?

I just did a purple bmw m and noticed after the detail. in the sun the hood has what looks to be light holograms. on it it might just be from before and i never noticed. or it might be my d/a i used uc and 105 on the hood. Could a g110v2 cause holograms ?

Re: holograms caused by d/a ?

Did you examine the car with a Brinkmann or some other light before beginning?
What did your test area tell you about the finish and what would be the least aggressive product and process needed?
You say you used Ultimate Compound and M105, in what order, what pads, and what speeds (arm and buffer).
Did you use any other products to remove any possible micro-marring, if there were any? Although you said you had defects greater than micro-marring.

Many factors can contribute to defect formation, including a dirt pad.

Holograms, also called buffer swirls or buffer trails, are caused by rotary buffers.

Your D/A may produce different type of unwanted stuff, like micro-marring and haze, while used with some products. Ultimate Compound and M105 Ultra Cut Compound remove holograms when used with dual action machines.

Therefore many detailers prefer to finish with D/A polisher (especially on softer paints) to have hologram free paint finish.
