  • BrandNew Pearl White car. #20, #21, or UW?

Im picking up a brand new PearlWhite Subaru Impreza Hatchback tomorrow and wanted to start her off with a nice durable protective coat of synthetic wax. The only thing i have on my shelf currently is Nufinish & MothersReflections. Both of these have cleaning/correction/componding/polishing (not sure which is the best term to use for removing swirlmarks) abilities that i dont need for new paint. Was planning on picking up a bottle of #20 or #21 but the more i read the more i think i should just go with the latest UltimateLiquidWax.

Which product would you use for my application and why?

If the answer is UW then my next question is: If i have UW on my shelf is there any reason/application that it would ever be beneficial to aquire/use #20 or #21?

Was planning on washing and claying before wax. Any tips for working with brand new paint? Im used to having to correct paint but this is my first new car.....

    Thanks,
    -Dom

TELL THE DEALER NOT TO WASH IT.

    I like:

    1. Wash
    2. Clay
    3. ColorX or Cleaner/Wax
    4. Wax - I would tend to look at Nxt 2.0 or Ult. Wax. Hard to say which you would like better. The Ult. Wax applies a bit differently, so maybe the biggest thing is if you want to learn and mess around applying a new type of wax. Nxt 2.0 is more standard.

Thanks for the advice. I will be picking it up the day it comes off the truck. But i guess it is possible that they might try to "shine" it up before i get there. I will call to make certain that they dont run her through the automatic wash or anything...

NXT TechWax2.0 has cleaning/correction/componding/polishing (not sure which is the best term to use for removing swirlmarks) abilities that i shouldnt need for new paint. My logic tells me that would be wasting my time using ColorX or Cleaner/Wax as we are talking about a new car that has never been washed before and should have no or minimal swirlmarks on it.

This is why i am seeking more of a pure sealant/wax like #20, #21, or UltimateWax. I assume that all of these have less cleaning abilities as #20&21 are said to have "gentle" clensers and UW is said to have none.

I completely understand your 4 steps with regards to a typical used car that has paint in need of correction.

viper, you do not know where, or how long your car sat in transit. You may need to clay. Inspect to paine, escpcially top, hood, and trunk areas. Use a plastic bag over your hand and wipe slowly over an area. Clay a test area and feel with the bag again. You do not want to wax/seal over bonded contaminates on the paint. Call the dealer again to say do not wash, no matter how dirty.

The reality is that you never know what that car has been put through between the factory and the dealership, especially when it has to cross an ocean to get here. All kinds of things can happen to it, from environmental fall out, to it being wiped down and washed at the port, etc. The best advice we can give to anyone taking delivery of a new car is to ask the dealer to not prep it, and then as soon as possible wash and dry it yourself and then critically evaluate it under optimum lighting conditions. That's the only way you'll know what shape it's really in and what you need to do to get it to the level you want/need/expect/demand.

Anything else is total speculation and the answers can be as varied as the respondents are.

Well, regardless of what the packaging says, I wouldnt be planning on using any of those products to remove swirls, esp by hand.

But, as the car may have sat outside a factory, and was transported by rail/truck/boat, etc, it likely has gotten a little dirty. So using the paint cleaning part of the cleaner/wax type products would be appropriate.

The nice part with the cleaner/wax type products is that they count as your first coat of wax also. So no time wasted.

This is why i am seeking more of a pure sealant/wax like #20, #21, or UltimateWax. I assume that all of these have less cleaning abilities as #20&21 are said to have "gentle" clensers and UW is said to have none.
            #20 is a mild cleaner/wax.
All the rest you can use as regular waxes. Anything about the cleaning ability in other products is a little (or a lot) blown out of proportion. Just pick which one sounds nice, and you'll be ok.

The steps more or less stay the same for every situation... just how strong, or what type, of products you may need to go into for each step.
