  • Cleaner Wax then NXT?

I'm going to do my wife's car and I have a can of Cleaner Wax that's been hanging around. We live in the SW and don't have a garage.

After I wash/clay/wash - if my first wax is the Cleaner Wax, will following up with the NXT 'bond' to the paint and provide " provides relentless water beading and protection against oxidation, corrosion, UV rays and surface degradation. "

Yeah, a cleaner/wax then wax is always a good combo.

You'll have no problems using NXT as a follow up to Cleaner Wax. As Mat suggests, using Cleaner Wax first will help to prep the surface prior to the NXT and give you a bit better result overall. You can apply the Cleaner Wax a bit aggressively in order to make full use of the cleaning ability, then apply the NXT lightly and in a very thin coat.

Topping an all-in-one (AIO) product like Cleaner Wax with a sealant like NXT is a tried and true method for many people since it allows some decontamination of the paint with the first step and improved looks and protection with the second. Your question about whether you will see 'relentless water beading', etc, appears to be pulled directly from the tin of NXT which is the marketer's angle on the product so the statement is ambiguous at best. To determine whether these are the correct steps for you it would be beneficial to know what you expect from the finished results: extreme durability? Defect removal? Highest gloss/deepest shine?

Having used both of these products I would say you can expect the Cleaner Wax to pull some embedded contaminants out of the paint and on a lighter color will brighten the look nicely, the NXT will provide an improved shine, slickness, and nice water beading attributes. On a vehicle that is outside 24/7 you can probably expect 4 to 6 weeks of protection before you will want to reapply NXT.

The Cleaner Wax / NXT combo could leave one person thrilled with the outcome while another individual might be disappointed, it simply depends on what you are trying to achieve.

You can probably skip the wash after claying if you plan on applying the cleaner/wax the same day.

Yes, Cleaner Wax then NXT will serve you well.
Since you park your car outside 7/24, you may want to do this ritual (Cleaner Wax then NXT) every time you wax.
If you have a dark-colored car, you may try a pure wax as 2nd coat (like Yellow Wax, Synthetic Sealant, etc).

My car is a daily runner but I keep it inside a garage at nights.

There are many variation in individual's detailing process:
This is what I do recently:
            1. Full detailing once a year, WASH - CLAY - CLEAN/POLISH - WAX - WAX.
            2. WASH - WAX often (maybe every 3 weeks). At every 2nd wax, I would do WASH - CLEANER WAX - WAX.
            4. If WASH and NO WAX, apply UQW.

Thanks yet again to all who replied.

One last question : I know you can clean Soft Buff 2.0 Pads with a cloth or brush, but I'm assuming they can be washed in a bucket; right?

Soft Buff 2.0 pads can be tossed in the washer and dryer - low temps all around, liquid laundry detergent, no fabric softener or dryer sheets.

                  Re: Cleaner Wax then NXT?

If I had to leave my car outside 24/7, I'd be very tempted to skip the NXT and just apply one coat of the Cleaner/Wax every 4-6 weeks and call it "good enough". As a matter of fact, that's just what I used to do. Cleaner/Wax is a very under-rated product. It's darn good "stuff".

If I do that, you know it's going to lead to my having to do ALL the household laundry; that's why I said bucket.
